The Official Motorola Milestone Thread

Caved in and ordered last night, wonder how long it'll take.

Where from? And Sim Free or on contract?

On contract has taken 11 days for me between ordering on Expansys and the tracking number they have given me picking up anything on the Royal Mail site. Still not confirmed delivered yet though...

Expansys, was gonna order from play but didn't like the DSR not applying! Also on contract, if yours is anything to go by then it'll be here for next weekend.

I've always avoided doing this, I read posts like this from the link above and it majorly puts me off:

"I just rooted my milestone. I tried to install 2.1 launcher by using adb emulator. Now my phone doesn't start up ("android" flash screen is hanging). I bricked my phone
I also tried to reset it but the setup wizard forced close. I can't get into home screen.

Anyone please help!!!!"

I rooted and changed the ROM on my Pulse numerous times without a hitch. The Milestone effort needs more time and testing. Having said that, I'm sure the dude can recover his device with a bit of messing around.

Mine has mostly been fine. Battery life was quite poor to start with but recently it has improved a hell of a lot. I get the odd 'program not responding' but you always get the option to force close or wait, other than that the phone/OS is as smooth as a babies bum!

I went from a HTC HD to this and imo it is a major step up. Everything on the HD ran well but there was just not a lot of things you could do with it! Where as with this and the app store/emulators you've always got something to do!

The screen is better than my old phone and doesn't seem to mark easy either, had it since before xmas and not 1 mark on it.

Overall it's the best phone i've ever owned.

P.S I love the keyboard!

Keyboard is "ok", but definately not a quick typing experience imo. Also the word checking needs to be improved. However I couldn't do without it, I use it all the time. :)

I've been running emulators on WM phones since 2004... but then the HD is an older, slower device, so the Milestone will wipe the floor with it purely on hardware specs, hehe.

Really? I find I can type with it almost as fast as a real keyboard. Maybe I have some magic powers or small girly fingers :p

But purely on apps the android os is miles ahead. There really wasn't much to do with my hd except flash new roms every week :p I liked my hd and manila looked great but there wasn't much else going for it, which is why I made the switch :D

Don't be silly it's nowhere near as fast as a real keyboard... either that or you are the slowest typist on Earth. :p:D

I regard myself as a quick typer and i find the keyboard on the milestone really easy to use. Maybe you're just not very good with your hands. ;)
