The Official Motorola Milestone Thread

Looking to get a Milestone as my G1 is basically falling apart. Although I can find contracts for all 4 providers with random online companies, tmobile and o2 dont seem to have it listed on their site :(

My only 2 criteria are the next phone must be android, and really would like it to have a slide out keyboard. Anyone moved from a slide out keyboard to the desire and been ok with it?

I used to always use the slide out keyboard but since I discovered Shapewriter (Similar to Swype), I've not bothered using the hardware keyboard.

Get the Desire.

and they've fixed the browser, and they've fixed the music skipping, and they've improved the memory management, and they've made the UI smoother etc... :rolleyes:
 
RSDlite isn't reading the new firmware sbf - it just sits there with with the "file properties" box empty and the start button greyed out.

also, it seems to be designed to work with the phone turned on and booted into android - not the bootloader screen as recommended, when i did that all the device-properties fields were filled with gibberish.

maybe it's not accepting the firmware because i'm trying to flash to a "service" version. downloading the other type now.

Maybe a silly question but did you extract the .SBF file from the .gz archive (using WinRAR etc)
 
In a few days, could you guys please report back with battery usage improvements (or not!) under the 2.1 firmware?

since i got my "multimedia" dock my phone always has full battery, to the extent where i just ignore the damn battery indicator completely.

Just started the insurance claim on my milestones poor broken screen... apparently it will only take a week and I'll get either it repaired or a brand new one! :D
 
just a quick update - i managed to update using RSD-lite with another computer. RSD-lite has obviously taken a disliking to my desktop.

i used an Old XP laptop i have for precisely this kind of thing.

experience of the UK-specific 2.1 update: Perfect. literally, all of the issues i had with the Euro update have been rectified (mainly predictive text on the keyboard entries). automatic apostrophes are back! \o/

took you long enough, but thanks Motorola!
