I was told there would be a literacy, numeracy and Excel test during the interview. Anyone have experience on this or give me any tips as to what will actually be involved/what I need to know?
Indeed. Echoing what @AnastieByte said above. I've seen the questions that my trust uses... basically year 9 maths and English. What's more shocking is that I'm told by my nursing colleagues that not all applicants pass these! :O

Yeah the worst I have seen when hiring are e.g. drafting an email, spotting grammatical mistakes, simple Excel tasks or identifying and labelling certain situations (e.g. delegation vs escalation). Good luck :).

Well after 22 years and some months working for Public Health Laboratory Service/Health Protection Agency/Public Health England (Same lab just fine examples of Government Interference changing the logo on the headed notepaper every few years :p) I'm finally going to be joining the NHS, it's the same Trust that the PHE lab is connected and located with (The lab is about to be dumped by PHE but that is a whole different story ) but a great opportunity came up, following the two biggest Trusts in Brum merging, that I couldn't turn down. Thankfully I refused to transfer my Agenda for Change T&Cs to PHE Civil Service T&Cs because I would have lost my continuity of service under the current arrangements. I'm looking forward to it, a much nicer Hospital Campus, an end to my pay freeze, a different kind of bureaucratic nonsense (a change is as good as a rest ;)) and in 6 months time most of my current colleagues from the laboratory bench side will have TUPED over :)
