If the games you want to clear are going to take you until after the new year then wait. If it doesn't then getting an NS2 closer to christmas is probably going to be as difficult as it was for NS1 during launch year christmas and/or Covid.

My back log of games is insane across the formats I have and I’m struggling for time on them as is.

Why I think am better off waiting.

Launch wise I’m only interested in Mario kart, donkey kong and bravery default as I never played original but it always looked interesting

Not sure yet to be honest. DK and MP4 are more my kind of thing. I don’t really play much MP these days.

If neither or those are launch titles then I still have enough un-played stuff on my original Switch.

DK is July 17, and there is no date for Metroid Prime ... rumours suggest an autumn release.

Given the widespread analog drift and threat of legal action, I can't see them doing nothing at all about the newer analogs. In typical Nintendo fashion we'll have to wait until the console is out and the teardowns begin.

Hall effects are not the be all; they have serious downsides such as they kill battery life on any controller that uses them

As someone that has recently got into replacing ALPS potentiometers in PlayStation controllers (shout out for Vince's epic repair thread) I think the benefits do outweight the negatives. I did bump into this Youtube video where someone tests the impact of Hall Effect vs. TMR battery life and the difference is negliable. However on it's own I'm not sure it can be trusted. I'm sure because of the way Hall Effect sticks apply a constant power drain they do have bigger impact on battery. From a personal preferance now of having used all three different modules types I think you can sense a difference in accuracy and clearly durability is much improved.

I don't think it's a Nintendo thing becuase all of the manufacturers are releasing products with ALPS sticks; Microsoft, Valve, ASUS, Lenovo, Sony, Amazon Luna controllers etc. So I think it's always going to be safe to assume any new product from these guys will use the ALPS parts. Only Guilikit, 8bitdo, Gamesir and other Chinese licensees seem to use Hall Effect/TMR modules. And I believe some of those share the same owners. So it does feel like Guilikit's licences/patents are restrictive, or something else is stopping the usage of better tech for now. A lot of people think it's just a cost thing but I'm not sure that is true either.

Either way much more needs to be done to make it easier for us to repair/replace stuff. And at least with Nintendo you can buy replacement modules to fit rather than going through the pain of removing soldered on parts. Assumption is the Switch 2 joystick modules are comparable to the original Switch.

I was just able to place a pre-order via Argos, though I hadn't received an e-mail notification saying it was available again to order.
