*** The Official Nintendo Switch 2 ***

Animal Crossing is one of the ones that doesn't, as I unfortunately found out when my son upgraded his Switch...
Same with Pokemon.

The two games where a cloud save is almost critical are supported.

Well... for me (and many others) this nonsense was unacceptable. So I naturally took the only option that allows for complete save file backups (currently not compatible for Switch 2 transfer, but could be in future, who knows?). Folks usually have to take things into their own hands since Nintendo doesn't want to bother offering any solutions, I mean look at 3DS and WiiU after eShop was killed off.

*s do what Nintendon't as they say.

Heck, the Xbox 360 had this over a decade ago (for free, without even having to pay for Xbox Live), I was able to copy over my Just Cause 2 save file to PC to continue playing on there (after buying for an amazingly cheap Steam sale price). Unacceptable from Nintendo, and even going forward still the case that they don't offer save backups for all games, except for some when paying for their online.

Switch2 easy to develop for, Cyberpunk was ported in just a few weeks and already runs better than Steamdeck

Glad Nintendo's 2025 console is performing better than the 2022 Steam Deck on some games.

Someone beat me to it lol. At least Nintendo's 2025 handheld/console hybrid beats something, it's the least we expect at this point.
To be fair, they previously launched a console midway through the competitor gens and competed well.

Even Reggie can't accept what Nintendo is doing this time round and knowing Iwata... he'd be rolling in his grave.

Given the history of the Nintendo hardware scene, my eyes are peeled elsewhere to see what new developments the Switch 2 brings ;)

Yeah totally unnecessary. I am just going to keep using my original pro controller which is still a very nice controller.
Definitely not unnecessary depends on what sort of game a person plays, I prefer not having to take my hands off the controller when playing, also nothing wrong with the original pro controller.

Animal Crossing at least has the feature where you can upload your island these days, so I think that would work as a save transfer, no?

The Pokemon games though, yeah...

I'm thinking of cancelling my preorder, other than MK there's nothing exciting i want to play on this until a new Zelda title. I'm not sure almost £500 for MK is decent value.
I've not played Zelda TotK yet so I think I'll get that and tell myself it's a new console launch game  . I've also got some other games I never finished and want to play, particularly Cult of the Lamb but the laoding times were a bit too long for me. So hoping that on the SW2 (is anyone calling it that yet? S2 maybe?) it will be more comfortable to play

I'm really hoping we get a new nvidia shield out of this though.

They was working on one until they got into the deal with Nintendo to make the Switch.

Another shield wont happen happen. I think the whole Nvidia Shield hardware series is dead :(

I take it Nintendo take payment on order and not before delivery?

They havent taken the money yet. it gets taken a few days before release day and delivered on release day is what it looks like

edit:

its about as clear as mud how it all works I have no idea...

It's still unknown how older games will function, those without a patch anyway. Will they play at higher resolution / frame rates or not ? I'm beginning to think many won't without a dedicated update. Digital Foundry discussed this yesterday, too, and they aren't sure either.
