**** The Official Note 4 thread ****

Coming from years of HTC phones it took me ages to get used to the menu and back buttons being on the "wrong" side

The other tick box for me is the size. It's pretty much exactly the same size as the Note 3. Weight difference is negligible too.

So let's see, upgrading from a Note 3 to Edge/4 would also give:

+:
Better performance.
Better battery life.
Better screen(s).
Better camera (60% better in low light, faster response in low light, OIS).
Better S-Pen.
Curved front edging around the glass like the Note II used to have as opposed to the sharper edging as on Note 3.

-:
No USB3, need to remove SD card for large transfers via card reader.
No new IPX certification which many of us expected it to have.
No new fingerprint scanner to unlock/sign in with.
No new metal casing.

Samsung have reached a comfortable zone of excellent sales simply through throwing money at marketing. As such they can compromise on really nailing a phone. If you wanted to make a brilliant phone, you would drop touchwiz, put speakers on the front, put a premium body on the phone, 4gb and a whole host of other small touches.

Instead, they spec bump and push a "breakthrough" feature that is not implemented particularly well; keep their bloatware on the phone; market the hell of it.

It is a successfully strategy but it doesn't produce brilliant phones, justsolid performers with flaws.

So basically an iPhone for the Android World with the added bloat :p

Although saying that, Samsung did say they were a part of the new Google directive to allow users to disable bundled apps so if that's the case then we should be able to disable all the pointless apps and keep what is genuinely useful.

I'm liking the edge, any news on the release date? Have they stated whether they'll release at the same time?

Whatever apple comes up with I think will be nowhere close to the note. Love the new multi screen option. The old one was a bit fiddly but this seems to be working a lot better and easier to use.

Apple 'followers' will still buy it whatever comes up for the sake of their religion whether it's crap or not but considering how much behind apple was with everything over the last few years I can't see them suddenly catching up.

I'm on note 2 and my contract ends in November so pretty sure I'll be getting note 4, looks brilliant :).

It baffles me that nobody at Samsung seems to understand that audio is half the media-consumption experience and so putting a speaker on the back is idiotic.

You wouldn't put the screen on the back would you?

... what phone do you currently have

Turns out there is definitely a finger print scanner. I watched the video on youtube that mkbhd uploaded and he shows the fingerprint scanner.

The build of the note 4 is also identical to the alpha in terms of the edge of the phone. It's aluminium with metal buttons like the iphone.

His video is worth watching

Another video worth watching is the note 4 vs s5 here

Yes that's on the reverse. The one we're all on about is the home button fingerprint scanner, which the Note 4 does not have.

Yeah in connection with the home button being the fingerprint scanner, that's what was being discussed before the above few posts. I guess some thought I was on about the rear one.
