**** The Official Note 4 thread ****

Sorry to ask again but can anyone give me their opinions on the screen compared to 1080p screens like on the note 3, s5 etc?

Is the resolution noticeable? Or rather is the screen sharper? I imagine YouTube videos at the higher resolution must look great?

The extra res is only noticeable on very fine detail, otherwise it's not much difference IMO.

As below, even the tiny font is legible on the Note 4's screen.

UC browser is great for boosting font size for the forum:

It also keeps full screen mode on without the toolbar + url bar popping everytime you scroll up like on dolphin.

I've noticed the home button lag is gone when compared with the Note 3. Finally!

Also I've ditched Samsung's auto brightness - far to low for my liking, Gone with Lux Auto, very very customisable.

Cheers for the reply kona.

I'm really tempted to pick this up as I'm impatient, and I was all set to get this phone until the nexus 6 having an oled screen throwing a spanner in the works.

I was looking at trading in my s5 for the note 4 using ee swap, I done that with the note 3 for the s5 but it seems like there's no mention of it anymore on the website. Even though it was an instore thing, it had a section on the website that listed price bandings, eligible handsets etc.

Guess I'll have to call up my local ee to see if they still do this...

If not then it'll be carphonewarehouse trade in for s5 and nexus 6 sim free I reckon.

I know mate, tough choice. I'll be holding out for the Nexus reviews.

In the meantime...new wallpaper and icons

Cool, thanks mate, I'll report back tomorrow when I've given it a try :)

Any better Space Monkey?

looks nice - does it still look like that when someone throws in a big image into a thread? that usually screws up most text scaling in my experience

A big pic still messes up the format yes. Impressed with the browser though, use it primarily for the forums.

kona: how many phones do you have?!? :p

Also, what camera did you use to take that photo? Quality's top-notch :D

This my Sister's, got it for a week :p

Nikon D5100 :)

Took a walk into town yesterday, managed to walk out of CPW with a nice shiny black Note 4. Very pleased!

So far, impressions are fantastic! It's fast, near enough the same speed as my previous Nexus 5, which is great as I was worried about Touchwiz still being a lag inducer, but it seems that it's just not an issue any longer, thankfully!

The camera seems fantastic, really enjoying the slow-motion feature already. It makes trampolining videos very interesting! The screen is also fantastic, I can't see a huge increase in resolution when compared with the N5, but the colours and everything are just incredible. The pictures/videos that came preloaded are just mind blowing how nice they are!

My only complaints so far are all actually issues stemming from not having root. The DPI is just far too high, everything is ridiculously huge! I just don't understand why icons and menus need to be that large on a screen with this much space. Then there's the new way Kitkat handles microSD cards - infuriating! I have some apps set up that sync a copy of my music, and my research files from google drive onto my phone. I'd planned to move all these onto the SD card, and free up the space on the phone. Apparently google doesn't want me to be able to use the SD card though. Ridiculous decision.

I'd wanted to avoid rooting the phone, just in case, but at this rate I think it's unavoidable sadly!

I would be rooting if I were to get this phone too. DPI adjustment and a few tweaks would make this phone near perfect for what it is.

A custom launcher and setting the font to tiny helps somewhat.

just had a email from mobiles.co.uk mines been dispatched for delivery tomorrow, ive gone for the white one. looking forward to replacing my z2 which the misses will have as her s3 is on it's last legs.

The only issue for me so far is heat slowing it down. When it gets hotter it reduces the clock speeds and at the moment it does this even when just playing around with touch wiz. Doesn't bode well for gaming or Samsung vr does it...it's not being a fast phone if it down clocks when it gets warm.

For example after I changed from dalvic to art my geekbench n quadrant scores were halved for quite a while.

Of course that happens, thermal throttling has occurred on all phones for many years now!
