**** The Official OnePlus 3 Thread ****

So is the OP3 never coming back to PAYG then?

Never is a long time but it seems supplies of OP3's are tight. Looks like O2 have been overwhelmed with payg orders for this phone. I ordered one on Sunday online for store pickup (on Sunday) and it's now sat waiting in store. Problem is I'm not right excited about the phone having tried one in store. I may just cancel and stick with the X Style for now. I know the OP3 is an upgrade, it just doesn't feel like enough of one.

So my collect in store arrived today, after ordering on Friday. So after all that messing around with notifications that it was delayed... it arrived on time.

Confirmed unlocked, running my 3 contract sim in it.

Is the camera on the OnePlus 3 as good as the 6P?

I know the speakers on the 6P will be better being dual but im bored of the 6P now and need something to fill the void the Pixel has left....

Unlock and Rooting not an issue?

Think I will most likely throw a ROM on it to get stockish feel. Whats a descent ro to use? Any Android 7.0 Roms available?

Similar to me then. So far the indoor photos I've taken show the 6P clearly has a better camera. It's an ok camera, but indoors or in low light - 6P is miles ahead.

That being said, I think I prefer the OP3 in almost all regards:

- It feels nicer in the hand
- Although lower resolution, screen is mildly brighter
- Finger print scanner is faster, and IMO better on the front
- The device itself feels faster, but my 6P might be a little 'clogged up' with a wipe it would probably be better
- Software has sufficient combustibility that I don't feel the need to root at the moment.

With speakers at 50% on both devices, volume is about the same - obviously not if you don't cover the speaker on the OP3. At higher speaker levels there is some distortion from the speaker, although I don't know why you'd need it that loud :p

Anything else you'd like to know?

Thanks.
It's the fingerprint scanner on the front that I like about the 3. Never really liked it on the back as I generally text and what not when it's sat on a desk...

Yeah ditto - I can see the argument for having it on the back but for me it's less convenient. Haven't used android pay yet - but that seems a faff with it being on the back.

Couple of other things, just took a sample pic outside. It's still good, but the 6P does really beat it. This is the only thing keeping me from deciding to keep it.

The community ROM I found less good than the standard ROM - they'd changed a few things I liked, and had no real benefits for me. YMMV however...

This is it. If you already own a 6P a OP3 is not an upgrade.
It has a smaller lower resolution screen, smaller camera sensor which takes poorer pictures in both daylight and indoor conditions. Only a single speaker located where it can easily be covered when playing games etc. Not much in the way of custom ROMs yet and apparently the source code is a mess.

But it is physically smaller and has a processor much less likely to throttle under load, and more ram of questionable use vs 3GB on an AOSP based ROM on a 6P.

LCD screen?! It's already dead to me.

Ah, I didn't actually click the link :p

As long as it is a good LCD screen with excellent calibration like the 5x, iphone 7, I am happy :p

Looks like shortage for OLED panels so probably just be the same phone but with a LCD screen instead anyway so meh!

Hopefully have a camera as good as the GS 7/6p/5x and be a bit smaller or/and front facing stereo speakers.

It's just going to be a tweak so they can keep producing albeit with an LCD screen instead of OLED.

Although I'm sure there's a glut of screens no longer being used for Note 7's they could use instead? :p

I don't foresee any other changes until the OP4 gets outed.

Even Carl Pei replied OLED>LCD in the thread. So we'll have to wait and see.

According to Reddit, most of the delays are due to the lack of OLED displays available, so a new OnePlus phone will use LCD to reduce the delays.

EDIT: Kept reading the rest of the thread. I read this ~2 days ago, before Carl Pei posted those things. Looks like the initial rumors were right. Whether they will create a new phone to fill the void is another rumor in itself :D

Ouch!

Whoever want's one better get one ASAP.

It is also said that because of this shortage. OnePlus will discontinue production of the OnePlus 3 for a short hiatus with intentions of releasing a OnePlus 3 with some hardware changes such as an LCD panel instead of the AMOLED screens, (though, it’s not known if a new display would be QHD or FHD) as well as a refined Snapdragon 821 CPU where preliminary benchmarks show similar performance, but with improved battery life and thermo-efficiency.
