**** The Official OnePlus 5 Thread ****

Got any specifics on the buggy software?

It was around a year ago since I ditched my OP3, and a year before that I got rid of my X. Haven't first hand experience of the 5 but I did research into it when I briefly considered trying them for a third time.
Only thing I can suggest is you check the OP forums. I'd happily try them again, but the camera and screen is putting me off the 5 more than anything.

To be fair, I used the OP5 for a week solid before I decided to send it back. I actually took it away with me, one thing I can't fault it on was the software. It was great, and I had two updates in the week.

That is reassuring as I'm in the market for a new phone.

I'm pretty sure Google also collects the same data, along with every other operating system. Presumably this could be used/provided to the police should they wish to know when you used your phone and what for. OnePlus could use it to target ads, etc.

One way you could disable it would be to block all traffic to that address from your phone, but that might causes issues or prevent you getting updates.

We shouldn't be surprised, every org is collecting data on everything they can to use to their advantage.

Not sure what they can add at this point without seriously annoying OP5 users, SD845 is not ready, updated display would be nice, battery life is already excellent, improved camera? Maybe. Waterproofing or wireless charging? Doubtful.

Personally the main things for me would be the display and the camera, the rest just isn't important

Agreed, although to go Waterproof I'd assume they would need to lose the headphone jack which would bug me. Still waiting for Oreo release...

Let's Talk About OxygenOS Analytics - Carl Pei.

We take our users - and their data privacy - very seriously. We want to take this opportunity to tell you a little more about data collection on OnePlus devices; explain what we are collecting and why; and map the changes we will make going forward to address your concerns. While data collection is a standard industry practice, we realize that our users have the right to understand how and why it is done. Please know that we take this matter seriously and will proactively take steps to improve going forward.

OnePlus devices using OxygenOS securely transmit analytics in two different streams, usage analytics and device information.

The reason we collect usage analytics through the user experience program is so we can better understand general phone behavior and optimize OxygenOS for a better overall user experience. At any time, users can opt-out of usage analytics collection by navigating to 'Settings' -> 'Advanced' -> 'Join user experience program'.

The reason we collect some device information is to better provide after-sales support. If you opt out of the user experience program, your usage analytics will not be tied to your device information.

We'd like to emphasize that at no point have we shared this information with outside parties. The analytics we're discussing in this post, which we only look at in aggregate, are collected with the intention of improving our product and service offerings.

By the end of October, all OnePlus phones running OxygenOS will have a prompt in the setup wizard that asks users if they want to join our user experience program. The setup wizard will clearly indicate that the program collects usage analytics. In addition, we will include a terms of service agreement that further explains our analytics collection. We would also like to share we will no longer be collecting telephone numbers, MAC Addresses and WiFi information.

We take privacy very seriously and do not share analytics with third parties. Our intention has always been to better serve our users. Looking ahead, we will continue working directly with our users to do so. We appreciate your patience and feedback.

New OTA update just landed on my phone.

The latest OxygenOS 4.5.12 fixes bug of missing icon of Download app in 4.5.11, supports customisation of notification ringtone, and improves launching speed of apps. It also improves optimised adaptive brightness, fixes issue of YouTube video lagging behind audio, and display issues of some UI elements. The new incremental update also fixes issue of no 4G+ network in some regions, and bumps the Android security patch to September. The update also brings general bug fixes.
