*** The Official Samsung Galaxy S6/Edge Thread ***

Samsung's lawyers are going to be busy again.

Never had a case for my S2 or S4 and dropped both many times over the years, nothing on them other than scuff marks

Just last night from mrk who is a careful guy with an Xperia Z3:

Major disaster :(

Fell asleep earlier and phone slipped out of my hand and hit the floor... Bottom right area of screen chipped with a hairline crack leading. Bottom half above the nav buttons but below the middle of the screen doesn't respond to touches, had to unlock the phone using Cerberus (!) and am using a USB mouse via OTG cable to control the phone properly.

I'll have to claim off my gadget insurance tomorrow but this has put a setback to my day for sure!

Metal and glass phone like the S6 with tiny side bezels will be a lot less tolerant to a fall than the old plastic Samsungs.

This sure does look a lot more premium but the design overall is still a bit meh; hard button with capacitive buttons still...., no front facing stereo speakers, how far does that camera stick out!? Touchwiz does look VERY fast and smooth but the UI is still horrible looking.

My biggest annoyance is the screen res though, they could have had epic battery life but decided to go with a pointless res. for a 5.1" screen, got to have that marketing term though!

The edge looks good but I feel it is a gimmick that will lose its appeal after a few weeks.

Well, at least they have done more exciting changes than HTC this year anyway...

As long as the speakers are decent having them on the sides shouldn't make any difference to putting them on the front.

Take your computer/TV/hifi or whatever speakers and have them facing the left/right side of your room and report back on how it sounds compared to them facing "you" ;) :p

About as much as the iP6 from this side photo. Looks worse than it is I think.

I agree with you on the screen res. However I think they did it to boost sales of their Gear VR.

I can live without the non removable battery but unfortunately I can't live without the lack of micro SD card.

The green does look lovely though

^^ This

I'll stick with my S4 for another year or so and see what options are around, not interested in any phone without expandable memory, you'd think Samsung would have realised the micro Sd card was a major winner with some owners.

Just don't see the point in coughing up £600 a year for something that is pretty much the same thing.

My s4 is knocking on 2 years old now and it does pretty much the same thing as the s6.

I will wait another year or until something gets released that is really worthy of the money to upgrade.

In the meantime, I'm looking into flashing it with a google play edition ROM to get rid of touchwiz and all the cruddy Samsung bloat :)

In two minds. My S4 coupled with flashing is still a great phone. I am tempted by the 128GB GS6 or even the Edge, will probably end up on sim-only until more news of the Note 5 of Z4.

My contract is up for renewal in July, I've been waiting to see what the S6 would bring, I too would miss micro so slot so I won't be sticking with Samsung this time. I might just go for a cheaper contract xperia z3 for now.

So who at this point in time is planning to get one?

Possibly. I'll wait until I see more user opinions after release, see what the Z4 and G4 offer and possibly wait to see if the Note 5 gives us an Edge version with this design. I would like the larger screen, and 5.5" would be a sweet spot, but would be happy with a Note size too.

It's a long time to wait, but the price might have come down by then and there might actually be some ROMs to remove all of the bundled crap (even if it has been trimmed). A GPE version would be lovely, but there's been no word on GPE versions of any flagships for a while that I'm aware of.

If I do it will likely be 64GB Edge, but could be any colour other than gold. At the moment black, blue and chrome are my favourites, in that order.
