*** The Official Sony Ericsson Satio Thread ***

My one has arrived, well the one that was send to my work address :)

To my suprise, it comes with a 8GB Micro SD card.

Review to follow shortly.

Did you order any extras with it. Got mine coming tomorrow and was thinking about getting some kind of case/screen protector to stop those pocket scratches from happening.

Nope. I think ill need to get a screen protector though :)

As i have had the phone now for just over a day, i thought id add some comments about the phone :)

Where do i start, first of all compared to my Nokia N97 i am now able to make / receive calls at home with no problem. The phone its self is very impressive, it’s very quick and snappy. However, one little grumble i do have with the phone is the Vodafone software on it. To start with i found the phone a little clunky with the Vodafone standby menu active once i swapped this back to the Sony Ericsson one the phone is fine and very user friendly. So i think this is a must for all Satio users. Texting with the phone is excellent the on screen qwerty keyboard is very good. The touch screen even though the phones screen is based upon resistive technology is surprising very good. Ids go so far as to say it is as good as the one on the iPhone.

So far ive been unable to get the navigation to work on the phone, as it look like its trying to get to a webpage to download the software and all i am getting HTTP 503 errors (HTTP Error 503 - Service unavailable) Is this a problem with the page its trying to contact or is this a problem with the Vodafone branding?

Multimedia wise this phone is fantastic its a complete dream to use for playing MP3 / Videos. Once i am up to speed with the software it will be replacing my iPod.

However, as i said earlier i believe the phone would be much better IF it didn’t have the Vodafone software branding.

What's wrong with resistive, it's not as bad as iPhone users make out.;)

As long as it's on a decent specced phone its perfectly fine.:)

I am very impressed with the touch screen on this phone, its as good as the iPhone one i currently have in my hand at the mo. :)

Andy, can you comment on the battery? It's what worries me thus holding off from buying

Well, ive been hammering it today and its lasted about a day. So id say under normal uses it would last a fair few days.

By hammering it i mean, ive had the brightness up to full and ive been pretty much had a solid 3g connection all day with surfing the web.

Ahh thats one thing i have forgot to mention. The web browser on the phone is great. I am really impressed with it. Its very quick and simple to use. :D

Think I'm definitely going to be buying this.

Through Vodafone/Quidco you get £90 cash back on a pay monthly purchase, plus I can sell my N95 through various mobile 'recycling' sites for about £120. All in all, £210 return on buying a £630 contract, not bad at all!

Ive done the same with my old N95. :D

I would recommend this phone to anyone, my friend was soo impressed with it this evening he is getting one in the morning.

thanks Andy. oh and does it come with Sony Ericsson's own version of PCSuite and Ovi Store? Do you think they will support firmware updates?
Yes, the phone does come with a pc suite. Its very good esp for loading music and videos on the phone. Yes the phone support firmware upgrades. The vodafone software on the phone has a app store on it. Going back to the pc suite, it has all the normal functions you would expect. However, the software comes on the phone rather then a cd with is pretty cool. So you just plug it in and it fires up like a normal usb stick. I am writing this from the phone now ha ha.

@AndyD

Do you use email with the phone at all? What's the functioning like? Does it come straight into your inbox/what's the set up like with regards to how often it checks your mailbox etc?

Hi Mate,

Yes, I’ve set this up with my personal email account. It’s very quick and efficient and it’s just like a mini outlook really. The setup is no different really from setting up outlook to be honest. It’s up to you how often you can set it to check for mail. One function I do like with the email is it comes in a text version with the original HTML attached. If not tried it with Exchange yet, so I cant comment on that yet.

I hope this helps.

hey guy, iw as on the phone to a guy from voda, and he said to me that the sony satio will support the new vodafone 360, although he is probs right the website has no mention of this =/, so is he right or is the website right ?

also i can't get mine they are out of stock just gotta wait =[

I believe their are a number of new services launching at the end of the month and this includes Voda 360 i think.

Its well worth the wait for the handset :D

you still have not told me wether it will be compatable with this handset

Looking at this post on the Vodafone forum i am not sure now.

Hi kevmass,

Unfortunately, other than the Vodafone 360 Samsung H1 and the Vodafone 360 Samsung M1 I am unable to confirm any further handsets that will incorporate the new Vodafone 360 service.

For any other 360 fans out there, you might want to check out our All About 360 pages as it gives an overview as to what the service incorporates and offers. On a personal opinion, it looks like one of the best, if not the best service Vodafone have released in years!

Kind regards

Andrew

Cheers for the info on the Invisible Shield, will be ordering one of those. So far i'm quite impressed with the phone, only problem i have had is the odd random reboot, anyone else having these?

Ive noticed mine does that, one other little annoying thing. Using the music player it seems to put a 2 second plause between tracks. other then that i cant really find a lot wrong with the phone:)
