***The Official Sony Xperia Z Thread ***

Build quality is very good, had two both have been great. The speaker is not the loudest as it's sacrificed for the waterproof feature apparently the ZL (same specs but smaller bezel and not water or dust proof) has a louder speaker.

Camera is great in daylight but I find it very poor in dim situations, the latest firmware has improved the screens contrast and viewing angles so screen is pretty good tbh.

Others will have better viewing angles though.

Apart from that its pretty good. Lag free, stable and fast. Battery is pretty good too, yesterday I got 3 hours screen time with about 80 minutes voice calls & 20 minutes gps usage.

That's with google now/location history enabled and screen at high or medium brightness. Also 4 email accounts syncing every hour along with hourly weather updates and the usual google syncing. Lasted me all the way upto midnight and beyond.

On the latest firmware now, .307 which has improved the night time camera quality drastically from .253 and the contrast is great too.

Here's some shots of the viewing angles with my DSLR, good camera but im a novice (at best) at taking pics.

Pics might not do it justice but to me the viewing angles aint half as bad as some make out to be.

viewing angles were never as bad as some want to make out :) but they are bad when you put samoled or SLCD side by side with the Z :)

on its own its perfectly fine and usable.

Well should be getting a hero or s4 in the next month ill do comparison shots then.

4.2.2 can't be far off. It has been leaked recently and for some strange reason Sony has just started seeding it for the ZL. Furthermore an Australian carrier has stated a mid July release for the Z's 4.2 update. Better than a year but I would not call June "shortly after (a February) release". Next hurdle? How many bugs are there:p?

I'd settle for getting any software updates, im still stuck on release 253 on an o2 branded handset, it's a real sickener and a massive turn off as an ex-apple user. This android release mechanism is outdated and infuriating, sod the carriers and give us 1 version of the software. Considering selling this and buying a new iPhone in October :(

If you do, sell quick. Sony phones drop in price quickly! You comfortable flashing? You could flash yours with a generic ROM so get the updates as soon as they are released for the Z.

Use flashtool and flash vodafone .307, its perfectly legit no root or anything needed.

Let me know if you get any lag, its all great for me just some lag on chrome and album which I never had in previous updates.

If you're not running a Honami rom yet then get one on, it's like a completely new phone. I was a bit *meh* when I first got the handset but I'd take it over the Samsung & HTC now without a second thought.

This x1000 changes the phone completely and makes it what it should have been from the start.

Maybe by the end of 2014?

:p

but in all honesty, it will be at least 5/6+ months till any non nexus phone gets this update (aside from the current flagship devices, every oem phone still isn't even on 4.2.2 :o), Samsung were first with the 4.1 update (although with the amount of devices they have now and plus how feature rich/bloated touchwiz is, they might take a little longer this time round) then HTC a month or so later (motorola razr hd, maxx and m were updated more or less at the same time as htc one S/X) and Sony usually lag behind by months.
