Yes. Most of what is built for NASA is done so by private companies that happen to be scattered all over the country. Yes savings can be made and I'm sure there is plenty of waste in the procurement process etc but shipping things around the US isn't that expensive. Its the R&D and making the items that costs the money.

Well it seems like you already realise the wasteful inefficiency from scattering things all over the country with every person trying to get their margins in.

Now multiply that by every government agency acting in ann inefficient manner and you can see how the yearly expenditure of the country could become bloated.

Companies are scattered all over the country. What exactly are you suggesting here, that only companies in Florida and California can bid for NASA contracts?

Stop being obtuse. You damn well know that is a consequence of government officials all trying to get jobs in their area and not because the companies want to be waste fully inefficient

I'm not being obtuse but you seem to think the US is like the UK when its anything but. Its a collection of 50 sovereign states, each with their own business rules, tax rates and tax breaks. Companies move to take advantage of these and of course members of Congress are going to do all they can to bring tax $ to their state, its their job to bring wealth to their voters.
