The Official Splinter Cell Conviction thread

Played through the level twice on realistic. The game isn't bad. A little on the easy side though and the demo could have been a little longer perhaps.

Look forward to the release!

Yup i suppose they are trying to appeal to a wider audience, but for me its killed the series
Next one will be ,, SERIOUS SAM FISHER , i expect:(

I wouldn't say that, though it does seem that the style of gameplay is beholden to the plot, rather than the other way round. The plot is following the trajectory of double agent and they're fitting a game around that.

I do like the cover/hand kill/execute mechanics. I wasn't too bothered about this game before the demo but looking like a purchase now!

Was surprised how short the demo was - doesn't take long at all to finish (granted I wasn't playing on the hardest difficulty).

One big gripe is the lack of night or thermal vision - can only hope they add this in at some point as an extra you can steal/acquire!

Will give it another go again on the top diff and see how I go!

I'm not too keen on the new type of splinter cell... played the demo last night and it feels to uninvolving. It lacks the control that the others have. I'm going to give it another go again, but currently not too keen!

Are there any past SC games I should look at getting on the 30/PS3? Or are they all turd?

Last one I played was Chaos Theory.

Damn I'm rubbish at this game! :D

Loved the old Splinter Cells, but this one feels...different. The controls kinda suck moving between cover, if it adopted a Gears of War style of cover movement, it would feel a lot more fluid. Don't like the having to look at where you want to go and pressing a button type thing.

I found the demo quite good and can definately see a game in there. I have had it on preorder for a while now and am not going to cancel.

The only thing I would say is that with the execute element the game now has a tinge of puzzle about it. A bit like hitman so to speak. You only get the execute ability when you do a hand to hand take down. So I have found that the level involves you finding those one or two people that have a patrol route that means you can do this. before then going on to take out the guys that will not let you immediately do this. Therefore the enemies are set up this way; there will always be one or two guys standing on there own waiting for the inevitable.

Bit contrived I think, but still fun.

So has all the "good" stuff been taken out like in the first three how you could do split jumps and hang from pipes and whathaveyou?

There was some hanging from pipes and sneaking around below people - but there aren't any kills you can make from those positions (not the pipe hanging one anyway) so here's hoping it's all still available in the full game!

I never even managed a kill when doing the splits in a corridor in Chaos Theory!!

Err, you can kill from pipes, I did it a couple of times in the demo

I am going to get this for the PC though. I found the free shooting with the pad especially cumbersome. Took ages to line up a head shot under fire and then the chap would move (the cheek!).

Maybe my own incompetance but mouse and keyboard I think.

I know I will now be punished with driver issues from day 1 like I was with AvP

edit - however it does mean I will have to put up with Ubisoft DRM so might change my mind actually..........

Downloaded the demo earlier tonight and have to say im pretty impressed with it...now i just wish they would get the game out asap...its due out in April last i heard which kinda sucks but gives me the chance to finish off the DLC's for GTA4 and Forza 3 as well whilst waiting for it.

Does this follow on from the other Splinter Cell`s? The reason i ask is im willing to give this ago but i didnt really like the others at all but i need a good action/stealthy game as well their aint no MGS anytime soon.

If it does follow on would i be able to play it and understand it regardless?

This game follows on from Splinter Cell: Double Agent. There may be a few characters or names mentioned that you will not understand the significance of. But overall the plot of SC:C seems very simple and I can see newcomers getting the jist very quickly.

If you look up some splinter cell wiki pages regarding DA, they will help you to understand what happened leading up to the latest instalment.

I've been playing this for a bit over the weekend and I'm loving it! I played the demo of the first Splinter Cell so many times all those years back. I've been going through the level trying to find different ways of taking people out. There's a way that you can clear the main room within seconds. Mark your targets for execute (and make sure you include the EMP device), hang from a pipe at the top and wait for a lone enemy to walk underneath. Drop down for a Death From Above kill, and then press Y for your Execute and you'll end up taking out 5 enemies in one go! Pure awesomeness to be honest. I've always loved the way the Splinter Cell always has multiple ways of approaching a level, and multiple ways of taking down your enemies. I am a little disappointed that the pace of the game has changed so much (Sam, despite being much older now, seems to move far quicker) and that simple things like you have no differences in movement speed on the pad have been removed, but aside from that the game is going to be a lot of fun I think. Co-op will be especially good. I always enjoyed the co-op missions in Pandora Tomorrow (or was it Chaos Theory?).

Anyway, I'll be pre-ordering today :)
