*** The Official Steam Deck Thread ***

I'm thinking of upgrading my steamdeck today as I got a 2tb drive for Christmas. I'm afraid of losing my games saved data though from my games installed on the sd card. Will I be ok? And is the best method to clone old drive? Do people use the konsole thing or an app?

I did the upgrade and it was a breeze. I nearly forgot to take out the SD card despite telling myself I wasn't going to forget haha. Had half the back off before remembering. No harm done. It's now a 2tb steamdeck. Followed this guide...

I'm looking to set it up mainly with emulators and such because the bulk of my gaming will still be on my PC. Is there a guide for the best way to do this?
I've heard people talk about EmuDeck, should I start my search there?

Yes, start with Emudeck. Also take a look at Decky Loader, as that provides a load of useful tools.

A means of installing non-Steam games will come in handy too. Heroic Launcher (which involves going to Desktop mode to install new Epic/GOG/etc. games) or Junk Store (available via Decky Loader, allows you to install non-Steam games from within gaming mode) are the two most popular options.

If you have Game Pass, Microsoft have a guide on setting up Cloud Gaming on the Deck: https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb...eam-deck-43dd011b-0ce8-4810-8302-965be6d53296

You might want to look into Moonlight for streaming your games from your main rig too. It tends to work better than Steam's built-in streaming.

Once you've spent hours setting up all of that, you can then leave it there unused and get on with sinking a few thousand hours into Balatro or Vampire Survivors or Stardew like the rest of us

Bought a steam deck around 3 weeks ago after waiting to see what Black Friday deals might (or might not) appear. Bit the bullet eventually and shelled out on a 512gb OLED.

So pleased I did, having not played any PC games for years I’m catching up on a few things but also replaying some older titles. I’ve been playing:

- Last of us
- Portal 2
- HL2
- CP2077
- Brotato
- GTA5
- Deus Ex 2
- Deus Ex: Mankind Divided
- Escape from Monkey Island (have the entire library lined up to play through)
- Thimbleweed park
- Sanitarium
- Detroit: Beyond Human

Some I’ve only ploughed half hour or so into, others I’ve made solid progress.

I’ve also done some retro bits too which is amazing.

I think the pick up and play nature of it is excellent. It is incredibly comfortable to use for long periods (I could never get on with the switch in handheld mode due to the layout and always played it on the TV as a result).

My only gripe is that I purchased a JSaux dock and whilst it connects, every 10-15 seconds the screen goes blank for a second or two and then it resumes. Can’t seem to figure this out and as a result I’ve not played with it connected to the TV.

But all in all, great device!

That sounds like a HDMI cable issue. Can you try with another cable?

Well done for remembering! I lost a 1tb card through forgetting even though I was fully aware about the risk - I just rushed it lol

Started playing The Forest, which was dirt cheap in the sale and it runs great on deck. Has a good story behind it too. Not really played any survival/craft type games before but it seems decent.

Another thing I'm probably seriously late to find out about, but.... Waydroid is awesome! Can play my android games on the Deck now with full settings on everything so far. Was playing Roblox with my youngest, runs so well!

Hi all, currently I have a 4060 and will be upgrading this to a 5080 (hopefully in a few days’ time). My PC is currently connected to my 4k TV; however, as I have a young child who has pretty much taken over the TV and I also have another one on the way the majority of the limited gaming I do in future will be streaming via moonlight.

Now I am unsure on which device to get to stream to. I’ve looked at reviews and think the best for me would be either a Steam deck vs Odin portal 2. Now each has pros and cons. however as 95+% of gaming will be at home, I feel the Steam deck’s ability to game locally and faster decoding isn’t enough to over come the Odin's superior screen, battery life and portability. Now before I order an Odin portal I was wondering if there was anything I missed so would be grateful if anyone in similar circumstances could offer any insights/advice.

Thank you

I have a deck that when I put to sleep, the screen doesn't turn on when pressing the power button. Also the same when turning on. Have to force shut down at least 2 times then it turns on. Also did a factory reset but problem remains. Any idea what's going on?

I've not seen this device before so I don't have a great idea what it offers.
I do a fair bit of in home streaming to the deck and I couldn't live without the track pads for certain games.
The Odin2 portal also looks kind of small and uncomfortable on the hands depending on the person.

Thank you for your response. Do you have oled version? If you do, how are you finding the wifi as I have found a few people online complaining the wifi isn't stable for long streaming sessions?

Cheers for getting back to me. The LCD WiFi has no issues that I'm aware of its just the oled model that I saw a few people having issues with.

I wasn't aware and had a look. I also saw some similar discussion and also some comments suggesting that it had been resolved by RMA, suggesting to me that whatever hardware issue it may be could have been solved.
Anyway, I guess that's a risk you'll have to weigh up. Maybe someone else here with an OLED will chime in.
