The OFFICIAL threads?

What is the point in these? Is it so no-one else can create new ones and everyone keeps whatever related in the same one

Why don't see why people just leave out the official part and everyone else post in related stuff in there?

One port of call is better than having info scattered all over the place. The threads are open for all to post in. I don't see a problem with having "official" there, it just helps people notice and remember a thread.

By a quick tally we've got 4 threads with official in the title on the first 5 pages of GD, it doesn't seem like all that many to me. It's just a simple way of marking that these are semi-permanent threads with a high level of interest from users and it enables the collation of related posts in one place.

There's no specific criteria for something to be an official thread, the designation itself doesn't mean much apart from highlighting that it's a topic with lots of interest. Sometimes that designation will be put in by a thread starter in the safe knowledge that the topic will be popular, other times it is added later by the moderation team when it becomes clear the thread is likely to remain so that one thread can be the repository for all related posts.

We need an official Magnolia posting videos when drunk thread. And an rebellious unofficial one. Perhaps a counter-revolutionary official official one too. Not so much for the videos, but for the butthurt responses.

It's more noticeable in PC Games, but kind of makes sense in there. It just stops duplicate threads.
