**The official Vanguard Thread**

dont think it helps that most people cant play the game for any length of time before the server drops them or the memory leak brings their machine to its knees

Oh, I know that. The slowdown is a lot more... sudden than usual though. :p
ugh :(

What's pvp like as far as level's are concerned? Is it a "Must be highest level or you will die repeatedly" or is there a bit of give in it?

ok re-rolled as a Vulmane dread knight Frengrot. Encountered a quest bug in "Retrieve food" quest where you have to steal food from barrels at the Gnoll encampment. I laid utter waste to that encampment and no food anywhere, It no wonder the Gnolls are going to war...they're starving man!

Couple of things which are a little annoying

1. Some quests have enemies SPAWN onto you literally when you get to the activation point. So in other words you will not see an enemy for miles around but move forward another foot and wham hes on top of you attacking you... Is this deliberate?? if so its very very poor design! :(

2. lagged combat text.

3. Graphics Pop-ups are driving me nuts. Its a lot worse than oblivion. creatures, important items, ie anything interesting YOU CANNOT SEE IN THE DISTANCE because they only pop up when you are very close to them
How can one explore if one cannot see *what* to explore..

Also one of the quests for Vulmanes.... i have to find 3 of them (separate tribe or smt) in some cave up to the NW. Unfortunately there isnt an idiot-proof auto compass direction for this one. So i end up runnning up cliffs and searching for miles in the NW region... couldnt find em. How far away will quests tend to be??

On a positive note, performance seems to have improved a heckuva lot :)
getting 30fps on balanced but with lots of quality 4x anistropic etc. It looks rather spiffing. tbh the surrounding area here looks a lot better than the Human starting area in Thestra. (will post screens later)

As far as levels are concerned its not bad. Theres a 10 level limit on who you can actually attack, and a 20% level "soft cap" meaning if theres a 20% difference between you and your attacker you won't loose the normal 15% coin or loose any Infamy (kind of like WoW's honor points). As I said before though, PvP is very unbalanced at the moment, so you could basically say "Must be a healer or you will die repeatedly". :p

I dueled a Disciple from my guild yesterday, the actual fight lasted about 45 seconds before I took a dirt nap. Then I got him to stand still while I nuked him. Went all out nuking/dotting and didn't get him below 3/4 health before I ran out of mana, at that point he just sat and autoattacked me for a minute while I /danced and died.

Surfer, was that quest the Patrol one? I had a Vulmane druid for awhile, I guess you could say the quest is like an ambush one, go to the location and get jumped by mobs out of nowhere, but yeah I agree they could have done it better. The graphics problem, how do you mean exactly? The only thing I have that problem with is ground items in towns (tables, chairs and stuff), trees/grass/towns/temples pretty much are viewable from any distance.

Oh, and the cave is only around 200yds away from the quest giver. If you check your quest log you'll see theres a "Location" tab in the quest window with a list of quest location, you can tick the boxes next to the location and the direction will appear on the compass... normally... Had a few which sent me off in the middle of the ocean before. :p

Well i get creature pop up but it isnt really bad i guess - about medium distance. Other pop-ups include trees, bushes, rocks(the kind you can harvest as well), fences, chests, basically items you can loot. (will try post screens about it later) But the pop-up is sorta random, some things will appear and other things which are the same size dont appear till you get closer for some unknown reason.

Ohh also i could be wrong but is there quest locking? What i mean is say for a quest you have to gather/harvest 10 of X can you gather them before the quest is given and then get the quest and immediately get the exp and reward? Or is it a case of when you try to harvest the shrub/flower etc it just doesnt do anything at all?

yeah i usually check this but the only location it has for this quest is for the guy you are supposed to check back in with once you've completed the quest. I click on it to track the quest and it just pops up the 3 names on my screen on the right but no red dot on the compas lol

oh well ill wander around a bit. Is it up high do i need to risk falling to my death climbing the mountains?

No, its just a small cave at ground level, set into a small hill only a short walk from where you got the quest from. If memory serves right anyway. :p

Well, I've got myself a nice Dark Elf on Frengrot now... I'm gonna log in and try find one of y'all, though I don't expect you on for a few hours, I only got it working today, and been playing in the snow with peoples today, so... Yeah, see you in there.

Jeeva

ok so im soloing a denwatcher as part of a quest. Someone else runs up and starts attacking it as well. We kill it he says "grats" i say "thanks"
though i can easily take these creatures on my own. Im thinking maybe it aggroed him as he was walking by?
what is grats short for as well?

I'm clearly not up to speed on MMMOG etiquette :o

i admit its getting addictive now :)

also any other Vulmanes recognised the male npc voice man :D :D

sounds exactly like the guy who was...

the Candyman........... Candyman........

ie Tony Todd

scary

really must get round to going into my hsbc branch and pester them about what they need from me for a credit card either a normal or a student one...i aint fussed, whichever has the least paperwork and doesnt require me to produce more ID than i have with me here at uni

natwest give anyone and everyone credit cards :D
Even i have one hah!

You not get any bank accounts with places that do VISA cards? nationwide is spot on, visa debit cards. I prefer mine over my maestro natwest debit.

Saying that, its probly cos if id ever have a problem with natwest id have to go in with a gun to get seen.

i left nationwide as for some reason they said i needed a credit rating to even be considered for a debit card...which confused the hell out of me so i just went and got an HSBC account and never looked back, and this is the 1st time ive ever seen maestro not supported....ah well

Think I might buy this tomorrow, how good is it compared to WoW? Because ever since I stopped playing that Ive never been able to find another MMORPG that compares

Congratulations. Not sure how the ownership of a mob goes. Ive seen names of players next to a mob under attack so I guess its done by whoever attacks first rather than who does the most damage.

strange way of doing it but guess it prevents kill stealers and ninja looters...
