The old 'will I have to pay import tax' question, and another one

...I've no idea why you're obsessed with me seemingly misquoting you mentioning warranties when you haven't. I mentioned it because it's a valid point when purchasing, not because you asked about warranties.....

Me obsessed? lol

(Post #9 where you jumped in & quoted me, out of context, as though my point wasn't valid)

Glad you're sorted Alex. Enjoy. ;)

Okay, final word on this as I'm baffled why you cannot understand what I was saying.

You've said some wont touch them as they are grey imports. The ONLY reason ANYONE would consider this a problem, would be the warranty as you wouldn't be covered unless it's an international warranty. There is literally no other reason when it comes to the lens, and if it's outside of the warranty period it's a complete non issue anyway.

I pointed out, well, what I've clearly said twice. If you can't understand what I'm saying, and why the two points are linked, I'll leave you to it.

The warranty is also non-transferable and only applies to the original purchaser.

However I don't think that is the point. Some people wont touch grey market gear, it don't matter what they think, they may believe grey market gear will give them herpes or cancer but that is irrelevant. The second hand price for grey market lenses may be lower due to whatever irrational beliefs people have.

You also need to be careful not to generalize warranty information here. For example, some Nikon lenses are sold with international warranties, some are sold with regional warranties, some are sold with 1 year international and 3/5 years regional warranty by the regional Nikon office. Buying a lens from HK typically gets you an Asian warranty, buying in Europe and the USA gets you an international warranty, buying in Switzerland gets you 1 year international and 3 years Swiss warranty. I don't know about Sony and Pentax.

ElDud, this will also be my last post on this thread (now the OP has purchased & is sorted) as I'm even more baffled by you & your lack of understanding at what I originally posted & also re warranties.

As D.P. has pointed out, warranties vary, but as I said originally, selling grey-market gear isn't always straight forward!
Some dealers won't take them in & others insist on a VAT receipt.
