The oldest CPU you have in regular use?

Q6600 g0 here as well @3.4Ghz with an MSI 970 - still working pretty well! Running OS and games from SSDs seem to have let it keep up. Only 4GB of RAM though which is a bit sad :o

^^ those are the classics, I think you win the thread.

K7 derived Athlons were replaced in March 2003
first cpu i got from ocuk was athlon if its the one where you could overclock it by colouring it in with a pencil, simplier times :D

The first time I had any true success with clocking ws when I managed something stupid like 672Mhz out of a K6/2-500
Previous to that I dabbled with a Cyrix 333 and a Pentium MMX and before that, the 486DX managed varying levels of failure/ success that was probably down to simple ignorance and awful quality parts bought through whatever dole money I could muster.
I still have a great little setup thats barton 2500 based and its an NF7S Mobo, 1GB Corsair 3200 RAM, and its BIOS simply has the setting to get the 2500 to run as a 3200 and its been on that since day 1.

The PC is pitifully old now, but it still performs like a charm. Its running XP64 and my brother has it now, and he used it evry single day 24/7 and when its not doing his accounts etc, its playing his music collection as he works from home, so there we have it. Thecheapskate is one of those "if it aint broke, dont fix it" guys, but I have said to him, that while I agree, there is a limit.

An E8400. Not that old a chip but considering it's age still holds up well. Damn good overclocker too. Managed a full 1Ghz overclock... on the stock cooler.

A little love should be given to all those motherboards supporting those old chips, they have done just as much time - helping those old chips shine!

Still using an old Core2Quad Q9550 daily that has been overclocked to 3.7GHz with 8GB DDR2. Does fairly well in the games that are on that machine (Overwatch, SW Battlefront, KSP, Planet Coaster) with a GTX 580. Probably the best CPU I've ever purchased as it has lasted an age and still seems to run things fairly well. Don't get me wrong, it's far from the performance of a modern CPU, but it's not awful either!

I'm still using a Q6600 in my daily PC. Overclocked, of course (3.2GHz). The last CPU I had and didn't try to overclock was, IIRC, a 386SX-16. I had a Cyrix 6x86 that I couldn't get any stable overclock on, though.

The Q6600 is still mostly OK for games, with 8GB DDR2-800 and an overclocked Radeon 7950 undervolted to stop power throttling.

The oldest working kit that I know of uses a hilariously large board with two Z80 CPUs.

I think that takes the prize for a regularly-used machine!

I do have a couple of older machines in the back bedroom, but they've not been used regularly for a while:

* An HP Vectra P133 with 96MB RAM and Windows 2000, ran my weather station until two years ago. (It still works, but is no longer in regular use)
* An IBM PS/2 model 56, with a 486SLC3/75 CPU (essentially a glorified 386) and 8MB RAM, running Windows 95. I used that as a third PC when friends came round back in the day - it just about worked for running Doom! It's in fully working order, but only gets booted once or twice a year just to see if it still works.

There is one bit of that PS/2 still in regular use, though - the Model M keyboard. I'm using it right now, as happily it plugs right into my modern motherboard's PS/2 port.

Here's a peek at the PS/2 - with a copy of this month's PC Pro, just to show I didn't just grab a picture from elsewhere!

LGR is that you??? :D:D impressive kit you got. If I had the space I would collect some old school tech.

AMD 64 4200+ Dual core - running my vista media machine. Though given Vista is out of support next April this will need an OS change. Also have a Intel Core Duo U2500 in a laptop I use for web browsing etc (on Lubuntu which is surprisingly fast given the age of the laptop) .

i5 4590 in my machine at work. Closely followed by my i7 4770K at home.

The wife has some god awful 8 year old AMD chip in her laptop which I really hope dies soon so I can "upgrade" it !
