A bit of an unusual question for you, if you have the time it would be great to get answers from people who create signatures regularly.

What is the typical filesize of your average 400x75 signature if no specific effort is made to reduce the filesize to under 20kB?

Further information such as applications and file types used - jpg/png/etcetc - would be useful.

Usually jpg , but sometimes png if transparency is involved ( though shrinking below 20kb with transparency usually loses quality badly)

File sizes vary from sig to sig. But as an example the one i did above for ValiantUK91 was 38kb before reduction to ~ 17KB
