I havn't seen this horror film, but I just saw an advert for it on TV.

Doesn't it seem a pretty horrendous time to release that film? Surely they could have held its release back.

But why hold back it's release? Most people recognise the difference between entertainment and real news.

Sometimes it's understandable when certain programs / films are too close to the bone regarding some sensitive issues, but mostly I don't see the problem.

Obviously, but its a very sensitive issue, as you later go on to say.

An action thriller about a kidknapped girl probably wouldn't go down to well right now either.

Honestly though, who is going to get offended?

Would a former resident, now grown up, feel aggrieved and upset that there is a horror movie currently on release called The Orphange?

The only people I can think would care are do-gooder politically correct types who like to have a whinge - not saying that's you btw :)

Its not really a case of people being 'offended', more that it looks like those involved with the release of the film are being pretty insensitive. In fact I would be willing to bet that those abused would be pretty upset something very real and traumatic to them, which at present is strongly affecting them, being presented as a hollywood 'popcorn muncher'.

Well those events are with them regardless of when a film comes out. If a film is released which mirrors (does it?) their experiences then I can't see how it matters when it's released.

I do see what your saying though, I just don't agree. Have there been any complaints do you know?

I think most people can review the situation and see a few things that they wouldn't take offence with.

The film has been released for months in other countries, the script around for many years and the film isn't really showcasing abuse like that of the reports in the paper.

As a result of this I feel that those people will see no correlation between the two. If however a film was currently in production and released shortly, maybe a low budget affair then I can see why people would be upset.
If on the other hand the film contained scenes of abuse/torture and pedophilia then I would agree with you whole heartedly. But it features none of it. The film is about a haunted house.

I have seen the film and not once during watching it did I ever think about the events at the Jersey home.

I think you are over reacting and see only the reference of it being an Orphanage resulting in your disgust.

I'm not 'disgusted' at all, I would have just thought they would have tip toed around the issue a tad more gently. It was headline news about 3 weeks ago after all!

Oh god I hope this doesn't become anything like that Simpsons thread I made :p

Was it a good film?
