Publisher and developer THQ has said that it has no sympathy for consumers who buy second hand games and find they then have to pay to access additional features that would have been available in the new games.
In fact, said THQ's creative director, Cory Ledesma, the publisher feels that it is "cheated" when the game is bought second hand.
"I don't think we really care whether used game buyers are upset because new game buyers get everything," Ledesma told CVG. "So if used game buyers are upset they don't get the online feature set I don't really have much sympathy for them."
"That's a little blunt but we hope it doesn't disappoint people. We hope people understand that when the game's bought used we get cheated," he added. "I don't think anyone wants that so in order for us to make strong, high-quality WWE games we need loyal fans that are interested in purchasing the game. We want to award those fans with additional content."
THQ has recently begun introducing one-time codes into their games which allow those who buy the game new to access DLC for free, while second hand gamers will have to pay for it.
EA was one of the first to introduce the system, where it became known as 'Project Ten Dollar', while Sony is now looking to implement it for first-party titles too.
. I can see eventually console games requiring activation keys like PC games
These high st shops which trade used games need to go away fast as they are not providing any money back to the developers so all they are doing is getting rich on other peoples work & selling used games for silly prices!!
I find it quite ironic that these same retailers are the main reason why PC games @ retail are almost extinct & now the publishers are taking the same steps to prevent used console games being sold so its quite likely that there will be less shops selling used console games before the end of this year & every console game will become like PC games tied to the account & not resealable.
What goes around comes around!!

The market isn't biased in the slightest towards second hand sales.
Demos of what though? I want some names.

I just got an email this morning saying Bulletstorm demo was out , download now. I thought great , it looks like a good game to check out![]()
Clicked on the link and the demo is only available on the Xbox360 and PS3![]()
When you sign up for an account with EA they even ask you (in tick boxes) what formats you own and what kind of games you like ect so really if it wasnt pc related they shouldnt have sent out the damn email :/These high st shops which trade used games need to go away fast as they are not providing any money back to the developers so all they are doing is getting rich on other peoples work & selling used games for silly prices!!

beaten badly whilst i was reading the thread... by the same example aswell ^^
*hangs head in shame*
would you say the same for the 2nd hand car market ? say a garage which sells used cars.
Really?
So when you go to GAME and take a recent console release to the counter they don't ask if you'd like a second hand copy for a fiver cheaper? Or whenever you buy a game they never ask if you've got any games to trade in?
Their second hand shelves are never bigger than the new stock either.
Imagine if you went into HMV to buy a blu-ray and the assistant pestered you to buy a second hand version instead and asked if you've got any blu-rays to trade in.
Now the supermarkets are stocking second hand games you know the market is getting biased towards used sales. Funny isn't it that the supermarkets don't sell any other second hand goods - just games. It's not sustainable in the long term and it'll end up with all console games using activation keys to lock the entire game - not just multiplayer or DLC - to consoles or accounts if the situation doesn't improve. That'd be a bad thing, as it's already happened to PC games and I'm not happy at all with that.
Not remotely the same thing. Car manufacturers make a lot of money out of servicing and parts for used cars.
