I have no idea if I am more laid back following a life threatening illness some six years ago or perhaps it is just my age (62) but the days ,months, years seem to fly by. And whereas in the past when I worked unless, I was actually going away somewhere then I would not necessarily take my holiday entitlement because invariably I would get bored. And this was only 6-8 years ago.
Now I am pretty much housebound with PC gaming being my main interest with complaining following a close second. But I never seem to feel bored.

So does your perception of the passage of time change as you get older or because of some traumatic event?

My way of seeing it:

When you are 10, a year is a 10th of your entire life.
So it seems like aaaages.

When you are 50, a year is a 50th of your entire life.
So it seems quicker.

Also as you get older you get into things more, you specialise into things.
Delving into something you enjoy - Time passes quicker.

This is in part due to imaginary time...

If we imagine "regular time" as a horizontal line running between "past" in one direction and "future" in the other, then imaginary time would run perpendicular to this line as the imaginary numbers run perpendicular to the real numbers in the complex plane. Imaginary time is not imaginary in the sense that it is unreal or made-up — it simply runs in a direction different from the type of time we experience. In essence, imaginary time is a way of looking at the time dimension as if it were a dimension of space: you can move forward and backward along imaginary time, just like you can move right and left in space.

Time does go quicker nowadays.
I had this conversation with my 15 year old last week and even he agrees that the years seem to be speeding by.
I remember summer holidays from school used to feel like ages, now it seems like a couple of weeks.

Yea, when i was in school those 6 weeks felt like an eternity.

Now its simply ... Gone

It must have something to do with how much more we have to do in our lives as we get older with less time for reflection due to the business of everyday living.

Years ago we would spend a fair amount of time indoors but had no internet and only a limited number of options for entertainment.

I think smartphones and tablets mean you can distract yourself continuously. Have a weekend in the house but don't use any internet or on demand on the TV and it's like being transported back to the mid 90s when time lasted longer.

PCs and the other internet devices are massive time eaters! Every now and again, I have up to a week without either and it is very scary how much much time slows down.

Time has been going super quick since having children, I'm busy at work and then get home and I'm busy, then they go to sleep I have some down time then go to bed.

Weeks roll into months and years.

time is not real it's a man made concept

I've certainly noticed time seeming to go quicker as I've gotten older. It's already October, yet it feels like Christmas was only a few months ago. It can be a good thing at times (like the fact we're now less than 6 months from our next holiday) but not so good in other ways (I'm fast approaching 38 now!).
