Well,

Was awoke at 3:30 this morning by the doorbell being rang and pounding on the front door. Shambling downstairs, bleary eyed and thoroughly discombobulated, I was greeted by the sight of a rather young looking Police Officer asking me to step outside and identify a vehicle on our drive. It was my mother's '08 plate Focus CC, passenger's side door and the glovebox wide open. Apparently the Police had drove through our area in the hope of catching a suspect who had broken into another car a few streets away, and had happened upon said scrote as he was routing through my mother's car, illuminated in the wan glow of the interior light. He subsequently took off running, but after a rather embarrassingly short pursuit, was arrested on the drive of a house barely 5 doors down the street, caught red handed with a bag full of stuff nicked from various cars across the area that evening. He was being hauled to his feet and unceremoniously stuffed into the back of a Police van when I stepped outside, while other officers were searching under the neighbours car for his ill gotten gains.

And the cause of all this drama? I suspect the scatty cow that is my mother hadn't locked her car, as there was no sign of forced entry at all, and both keys were accounted for. Check your doors before you walk away eh? I realise that it's easy to get complacent with remote central locking. We were lucky the Police just happened to swing by, he'd have gotten away with a TomTom and two wallets full of CD's if they hadn't.

Cool story bro, etc.

Doesn't your Mothers car come with an auto lock security feature? My car locks itself automatically after like 30 sec if I don't lock it. My Dad has the same car as me and he managed to somehow leave the keys on the drivers seat and the car locked itself and he couldn't get in lol.

My car does the same but only if you unlock it and don't open a door, it'll lock itself after a minute or so. I check the handle anyway to make sure.

Jumping on the fellow a bit there Nath, I took it he meant to dodgy bm remote locking also.

My wife, more so than not, always seems to leave her car unlocked.

When told, the only response from her will be a shrug her shoulders :(

When I lived with my parents, we lived in a relatively nice area and I would occasionally leave the car unlocked by accident - no biggie. Never done it since I moved out, but I'm worried I will one day. In either location, I'd have never been tempted to leave my TomTom in the car! I don't even leave CDs in the car, but then that's more technology having moved on than being worried about them being nicked...

I have mine set to fold the wingmirrors in just after it's locked so as i'm walking away I do a quick check to make sure they have. :)

Same, probably the best feature i've had on a car. I was always wondering if i'd forgotten to lock previous cars.

We will just have to wait and see won't we.

Of course I meant because BMWs are being nicked due to an insecurity with their remote central locking... Another report of this would be far more interesting than "I didn't lock my car so someone tried to nick stuff from it."
