The Perils Of Remote Central Locking...

well i've in the past left the keys in the ignition after getting the little one out, and with it being a second car, left them there for 2 weeks, only when I wanted to take it out I searched the house and couldn't find them, so went out to garage to check if i'd left them in there but spotted them as I walked past car.

And I can confide with the remote central locking, my car went through a phase of locking and then unlocking itself due to a dodgy wire, so more often than not, it would be unlocked.

Doesn't your Mothers car come with an auto lock security feature? My car locks itself automatically after like 30 sec if I don't lock it. My Dad has the same car as me and he managed to somehow leave the keys on the drivers seat and the car locked itself and he couldn't get in lol.

Nope. If you unlock it but don't open the door within 30 seconds, it'll lock itself again. But if you pull up somewhere and get out it won't.
 
Mine "supposed" to lock if I walk away with the keys, i am not sure how long but one time I went into the house for about 3 min and came out it was locked.

Normally I press the lock button and watch for the indicator light flash for confirmation that is locked. To check it in person I would need to walk towards it without the keys, kinda hard when i am out, alone as it unlocks when it detects the key is near the car.
 
My car toots when its locked - cars that don't freak me out so I press the lock button 3 times just to be sure :p
 
There's nothing in my car, couple of self-burnt CD's and a phone charger, it's not even as though they can get my CD player :D
 
Caught red handed breaking into a car and carrying stolen goods from other local cars that were broken into just before he was caught.

That'll be a caution then - back out to re-offend tomorrow.
 
I left my car unlocked a month or two ago. Someone had had a rummage and taken a £7 USB stick. Nothing else worth nicking really.
 
Similar thing happened to me. I now keep my keys on me and accompany my wife to the car to lock/unlock it as twice she has forgotten to do so resulting in some rummaging in my car.
 
where all the other cars unlocked too ?

rarely lock my car when its at home unless ive left things in it. id rather have someone open my door and see theres no satnav/bag/phone etc than smash my window and see the same
 
I left my drivers side window fully down the other week after parking up in a busy car park at the beach.

Was away for a good few hours, came back and nothing had been touched luckily!

Two iPods in glovebox and my tomtom.

Could have been somebody's lucky day!
 
Luckily not everyone is scum, my dad left his laptop on the back seat once, with the car being open, the whole night, you could see it was open though as all the lock pins were all clearly up. Was still there the next day.

Would never leave anything worth more than 100 € or so in the car. I live in a good street luckily, my dad has left his car open countless times and nobody ever took anything ( I often use his cars, and when I arrive I notice the car was already open). 2 years ago in winter we got a call to the door at 1am from a neighbor, who informed us the boot was still wide open, result: 5cm of snow in the boot :o, but nothing missing :).
One day he will be less lucky...

Leaving a tomtom in the glovebox though ? Isn't that making it a bit TOO easy ?

Nicking cd's and usb sticks ? How low can you go :D ? If I was a thief, I wouldn't even bother with things not worth a tenner.
I do leave my HU front in the glovebox in what I deem ''safe'' areas, in dodgy areas I take it with me!

I do lock always my car ( or try to :p), if I don't they can open my boot and nick my Amp and subwoofer, and I don't fancy carrying a 12'' sub and an amp home and re-doing all the cables on the amp every time I want to use the car.

The bloke who lived across from me got done a few times for his TomTom/iPod etc, he had a dodgy lock on his transit van which he never bothered getting fixed.

Ever since i got the rear car window smashed a few years ago (to nick the spolier of all things) i've not kept anything in the car worth more than a few quid, so if i do accidentally leave it unlocked (which i have done a few times as the key fob was a bit dodgy) there's nothing for them to have. On the times the chap over the road got done i had left my car unlocked, evidenced by the fact my ash tray was removed and open on the car seat and the glove box was open, they got a grand total of about 15p in copper but left my boiled sweets! :D

Have seen it first hand in operation though, i looked out the bedroom window one night and saw a gang of lads going up the street trying all the car door handles and the front doors of houses, rang th epolice to tell them but by the time they turned up the scrotes had all dissappeared.
