The Peripheral - On Prime

It's mid-level sci-fi nonsense so far. Not that well written or acted and the ideas so far aren't particularly exciting.

I'm not familiar with the source material or how close it is to it but it feels a bit to me like a collection of ideas, etc. that didn't make the cut for the Westworld TV series.

Isn't that the point though? That we, like Flynne, have a few disjointed pieces of what's clearly a much larger story. If by the end we're in the same position I'd agree but we're only a quarter of the way through the season, so they've got plenty of time to tie the pieces together.

1st episode was decent but turned off the 2nd as the firefight at the beginning was so badly ended unless they have magic Hollywood bullet shields I didn't see. I may have another go this weekend.

Finished episode 3. It just feels like so much needs to be assumed or ignored, and just hope they will explain it later. Or they are assuming that a lot of people have read this novel! Very Lost-esque as @throwaway4372 said.

3+ hours into the show now I thought it would make a bit more sense than it does! But it has all the elements of good sci-fi, just feels like the creators have left out 10 minutes of exposition in each episode, which would really help to explain things and improve the narrative.

I'm gonna gamble they drop some real exposition next week, or it goes up a gear, as it will be the "mid season" episode. If not, then I suspect I wont continue to episode 5! I really, really want to like this!

Maybe it's just me but the HDR and the details in the future scenes really pop (OLED TV). The details in the cityscape scenes is incredible, or maybe i'm just biased as its London and I lived most of my life there!

I will go as far as to say its visually the most impressive thing i've seen on Prime. A lot of their shows have quite crappy bitrates or PQ in my experience, but this is a real showcase for OLED.

Episode 4 was the midseason and very good. Plenty of exposition and answers. Below all the glitz, visuals and confusions of the first 3 episodes it now seems to be a relatively traditional sci fi story in the end :D

The 2090 stuff is so technologically advanced it's good they don't go into too much detail on how it works, and just focus on explaining the parts of the world that the viewer needs to know.

Looking forward to the second half of the season.

Really enjoying this. There was some confusion in the beginning, but that's the case with good sci-fi I think; can't have everything explained from the start.
