The plausability of MW2's terrorist attack...

This is a real possibility, it would be SO simple for a van to roll up to an airport, any airport in the country, windows blacked out, back doors open and just open fire and walk in.

There was a famous shoot out in America some years ago when 2 guys tried to hold up a bank I think it was, there are videos on YouTube of it, the guys who pulled this of were just on a rampage for ages until the police devised a tactic to take them out, they were firing AK-47's dressed in body armour which the police rounds couldn't penetrate and just kept taking out person after person after person walking around with bullets bouncing off them, it reminds me of the scene from the film "Heat" when they pull off the bank heist.

Back on topic, if there were enough people determined and mad enough to do something like this in a van, lets say 5,6 or 7 people with fully loaded automatic weapons, dressed in body armour with ammo on tap then they could take out almost anyone in their sight quite some time until the special armoured response units got there, even the airport police wouldn't stand much of a chance against an attack that.

Just to point out ... they would not survive and escape of course but the initial rampage and carnage could happen and is a realistic threat.

I remember watching this on one of those American Cops TV shows. Were they AK-47's? Either way, they were equipped with military grade automatic weapons and like you said, full bulletproof body armour, which is eveidence enough that if one has access to equipment like this, then one can pull off a nut-job massacre.

And yeah if I remember correctly, one of the tactics the police managed to pull off to take out one of the criminals, was one policeman hiding in a bush using a shotgun at point blank range. It was the only thing powerful enough to at least stun the man.
 
From my point of view there is a fundamental flaw to the MW2 story. Regardless of the context, what kind of CIA agent would simply allow a terror attack to happen.
I really should finish the game before i ask these questions, but from what iv played so far, your after this russian fella yes, who plans/takes part in the attack. Why dont you just kill them there lol?

Terrorists dont need automatic weapons at airports remember just "box cutters"

I sickingly was the same, all through the game, so many times I smiled to my self thinking "wow... that is unreal" and when I got to the airport level, I knew what was coming but though... meh, why not, it's a ****** game! So sprayed away and was laughing with my mate simply because it was such a wrong thing to do but the fact it was easily done.

Disturbing but astounding for activision to pull something like that off.

In all major Russian airports, for eg, St Petersburg and Moscow. Anyone entering the airport has to go through a security scanner.
 
I just realised after I posted that it was was you that had to hold off till xmas too so might of been staying clear of everything :( My bad. Managed to wrangle it early or is it still on the xmas play-list?

i was wondering why i didnt just unload on him as he walked in front of me, would have ended it there. would like to know if theres a reason for having to go along with it.

and as far as it actually happening, ive been to heathrow/luton a few times to pick up family, aside from the SMG weilding police officer standing in the male toilets (god that made it hard to pee) its always seemed easy to walk in and about without trouble. though i obviously dont know how many times i was on cctv etc.
though i think it could happen, and they could cause a lot of damage

Still on the xmas playlist. I don't mind too much got some WaW/Killzone 2/Uncharted 1 to pass the time. :)

This just doesnt happen in the real world

The odds on finding 7 mean, skilled with automatic rifles, to such a level they could cope with recoil and use them accurately , each of them with the access to the weapons and ammunition, and the desire to kill innocent civilians is extremely unlikely. Even more unlikely still, would be the ability to find 7 of these men willing to fight on even after their comrades were shot around them, and to carry on fighting to the death. These sort of people would have to be all ex military. You can find 1, as the shootings in America in NY prooved this year, but the odds on finding 7 as mad as each other are suitably slim.

and even if you could, their ability to carry out such an attack on a UK airport is now severely diminished after 911. Armed police routinely patrol the UKs airports, and you can bet your backsides they've got plenty more in reserve waiting in the wings than you know about, as one poster already hinted at.

Plus cities like manchester and london have huge armed response teams sat on call 24/7 anyway. They drive fast response spec vehicles and are trained to the highest driving standard. They could be on scene within minutes.

It would only ever end one way, them dieing in a hailf of bullets and taking as many police officers as they could. They would never be in a position to make an escape with the majority of the crew unharmed unless they just jumped out the door, fired at everybody in arrivals, and jumped back in the van minutes after first openning fire. And even then somebody would see what they were using to make their escape. And they wouldnt outrun the police chopper.

that was pre 911 in the 80s

Armed police have come a LONG LONG way since then. That simply wouldnt happen now-a-days.

Have you seen the equipment the likes of Miami SWAT carry round these days ? They are now used to dealing with professional drug dealers who will use body armour, and have armour penetraing bullets available to use in their M4s.

if his orders are to do whatever is required to become a member of that group then thats what he gotta do

hes wouldnt be bothered about a few hundred russians getting shot when the whole of the USA is at threat from the guy he is trying to get close too

The same CIA that did Agent Orange to Vietnam, and the same CIA that funded and armed the Taliban while they were fighting the Soviets.
