Some cracking pictures makes my ones feel so crap but they were my first!

Everyone has to start somewhere! Your link to your Flickr page does work above. You can link to your pictures direct in here as well. In Flickr select one of your pictures and click the "All Sizes" button that is above it, select the size required (generally max 800 pixels on the longside is prefferable), then below the picture you will see two boxes containing HMTL code for your picture. Select all of the text in box 1 and then use the following link to obtain the code to post in this forum to display your picture:

Apologies if you already know all of this!

Assuming it's this duck one?

Sorry but it looks OOF.

Ah right...
Looks far to closely cropped for the pics size to me...

Hope you dont mind blacklines but I just did this in Picasa while I'm my lunch at work & resized it in PAINT.net..!!
Not a lot of detail to work with though and I certainly no CS4 / 5 expert.

Massive improvement there ManCuBuS. Just goes to show how much processing can improve a picture.

Like i have said before (and been told) i cannot PP any of my images as my monitor is way out of calibration, im told (on here) that all my images are dark, underexposed, and hence rubbish.

Have you run through a simple image test to see how you get on, something like the below?

My laptop was very blue and I couldn't get it right manually so I bought a Huey PRO monitor calibrator in the end, reasonably cheap (in comparison to others) if you hunt around and made a big difference.

Really don't know what you expect calibration to do for you mate.

Calibrated or not, its easy to see whether a picture can be improved upon via PP or not & and you don't need advanced CS4 techniques to do the most simplest of saturation, sharpness etc changes.

Everybodies take on PP will always be different but where all would agree is that none of it HAS to be done on a £500 IPS screen.

What monitor are you using?

I'm on a Dell 228WFP TN panel at home which when I calibrated it, made absolutely no difference to it what so ever. In the end its a cheap panel with fast response.

The monitor I have at work (where I edited your duck slightly) is a 6 year old 17" CTX TN paneled screen which must have cost about 3 quid when new.

As I see it, calibration is only really suited to PVA, IPS or S-IPS panels as TN's do not produce the gamut that is required for those really serious about true colour representation.
