Maybe not this one, I quite like it in colour even though I prefer highpass-BW for such portraits, I think it's dependant on the face being shot though and the lighting ;o
Took one of the bog-standard Bristol shots today and was impressed by the sky - have done nothing to it - standard cam settings - tried to play with the sky and make it even more moody but as ever, lost detail of the building (Wills Memorial).
Oh actually, had I not fiddled with levels and curves and gone straight to the contrast slider, I would have found this earlier: P1000286 Moody by sarawallen, on Flickr
i was messing around in lightroom with a colour edit of the BW from the last page. I think its nicer than the BW (.... and should have been my vintage entry!) i think the shadow from her right hand needs desaturating a bit (its a bit pink) and the eyes pupils are a bit bright.. but thats for another day.
That's so cool. Loads of detail in this, and I suspect that even though it'd look good as a contrasty B&W, the colours in this make it that bit more special. The eyes are great too
These days the 40D LCD doesn't compare so much to the newer bodies with higher pixel count displays so I wasn't as sure as to just how sharp it came out (especially as I didn't use the centre AF which is hit and miss sometimes on the 50 at 1.8 but you get to draw an idea after a while.
I took 4 shots with varying crops, this was the sharpest so was quite pleased with that!
It's Geevor Tin mine near Penzance if anyone's interested. Doing some uni work there, some parts of the land around there are heavily contaminated with arsenic.. up to 30%
