Hey Alex, So far It's very nice! I'm yet to go out and about with it but I took the 3 shots I posted on here with it (last on page 511 and the one here) and I love it, at wide end it does need to be lens corrected but it is a wide angle lens.. I think I picked the right one as It's more the focal length I wanted and like and its nice and sharp but I will be picking up the 50mm 1.4 + 70 - 200mm at some point to cover everything and what is FF? is that the meet up in London?

Full Frame. With a crop camera like yours it's not that wide. This is not really a comparison for anything other than focal length, but my 18-105mm is only fractionally less wide than your 17-40mm. In fact, my crop is 1.5 and yours 1.6, so mine is just as wide as your 17-40mm.

I ask why you bought it as it's a lens intended for full-frame cameras, as I understand it, not really suited for crop cameras. Also because I am on a crop camera intending to buy lenses for a full-frame setup in the future, I'm keen to understand what people perhaps in the same situation are doing. :)

2 Bacon, 2 Sausages, 2 Eggs, Beans, Tomatoes, Black Pudding, Toasts [sic], Fried bread AND a cuppa for only £4.95?! Where do I need to go? :D

They work very well with crop sensors and are very sharp, yes they are made for full frame but work very well with crops as well, shooting with it I wish I bought one sooner :) and did you mean you have the 24-105L? or Canon 18-135 kit lens?

I got the 17-40mm as on a crop sensor as it's the focal length I love shooting at doing street photography, my next will be 50mm 1.4 and a 70-200mm L and then a 5D III and maybe a 85mm, I think you should buy the lens your going to use most at this moment in time and go from there.

ISO6400, no problems locking on AF on the mug handle from a non centre AF point, So much win, oh now to get back to Black mesa :p

Nice 595's, I've got a pair also, I think i'm going to go watch the last season of Dexter on Flix, My new cannon pixma 9000 mrk 2 is here tomorrow!, I need to print a bunch of prints and deliver em :)

Not really a tough test if your using the reflected highlight. How about placing your AF point over the text on the mug?

Not as hit as the small glimmer on the handle but centre af no problem. The point was that my previous camera would not get the handle in such low light on the first run of the af motor with no af hunt where as this is getting it on non centre af first time.

In your video the room does mot apear ro be pitch black either and af is hunting on occasion.

Room is actually darker than yours by 0.6 stops. Where it is shown hunting is where there is no contrast, on the white box I thought I was focusing on some small print, it actually was just some tape that was slightly darker, which is pretty remarkable it locked on at all.

Oh there's definitely light at least enough in your video for af to work just fine, from your monitor? Mine was shot with 2 big monitors in front as well so a strong contrast for af to work with.

Light is from Dell 3008 with OCUK forum on screen.

Below is another example and have included RAW (only around 12-13mb).
RAW File
ISO 12800, 1/50 F1.4.

Video is blurry as I needed to use F1.8 ISO3200 1/10, the video previous was boosted 1-2 stops in post.

Edit:
Turns out I was at F1.6 not 1.4, must have knocked the dial by accident.
