Visited the Shard at the weekend.

For anyone considering, I went up at 18:00, just in time to see the sun setting, stayed up for an hour and watched the city get dark, it was awesome.

I'd definitely take a gorilla pod if shooting at night, as there are waist high railings up there to attach it too, even at 1.4 and 1600 ISO I was getting really slow shutter speeds.

Reflections from the glass were the biggest problem for photography up there, so a polarizer may help in that regard.

That's excellent, if only it didn't cost so much to get up there though. A CPL will drop the exposure time even further. I think I did one at ISO4000 before from elsewhere and got acceptable results, long as the exposure is sound the noise is well under control. Would like to shoot from the Shard though, not so easy getting up a crane before sundown :p

Yeah, it was my birthday treat, but its £25 a pop.

I recommend gorilla pod + CPL, wont matter what the shutter speed is if its on one of those. It was really crowded, you had to wait for a gap to appear at the windows to get the shots so I don't think a full tripod would be very feasible.

Yeah, I didn't think they would do, it would just get in too many peoples way. I nearly didn't get up at all, I forgot had a small keychain leatherman in my camera bag that I use for work, got picked up by the scanners, whoops!

Just playing about :D

First time trying anything like this. I used a 30second shutter speed. You can see my arm :(

I've got that very same door tag :p

Picture look quite good for a first attempt - remember it's a learning curve :)

Here's a few from a Sunday afternoon walk round Glenrothes park:

Been practising long exposure shots - hoping to get some light trails done soon as well :)

Just a note, if you're thinking of taking a Gorilla Pod, if it's a windy day, you may still get blur at long exposures. The building sways from that kind of height.
