I just had a tot up on how much I've spent on security measures in the last couple of years and I'm disgusted at how much I've spent. Comes to just under £400 of my own money just to stop scum stealing my belongings. I guess the flipside is I've had nothing stolen, despite a couple of attempts.

Motorbike lock and chain for scooter - £65

Motorbike disc lock for scooter - £15

2x hasps for garage door - £25 each

2x padlocks for garage door - £30 each

Chunky braid and lock for freecycle bike #1 - £35

Almax Immobiliser 3 chain and lock to secure car - £150

Kryptonite D lock for freecycle bike #2 - £20

Total: £395

Should I be disgusted or should I be proud that I still own all my belongings?
 
I had a £450 bike a week ago, now I've only got the front wheel.
It's worth it to buy a decent lock, or ten.
 
Be proud, and ponder the imaginative ways you could route 240v mains through your posessions, so that the next thieving scumbag gets a little surprise.
 
I'm sure the money would have been better spent on lager.

Security is an investment, you buy something, you protect it. If you're disgusted at spending £400 in 2 years (~£8.50 a month) I'm just gonna assume you're tight as a ducks chuff.

Rather than electricity, I wish there was some way to supercool all the locks so that a thieves hands freeze and shatter the second they try to half-inch your gear. Bit of a pain if you are trying to get your bike after a few beers though. :)
 
Makes me appreciate living in a rural area, I dont bother to lock anything up. Sure you hear of the odd theft but its pretty rare. Mainly when you get a group of Travellers in the area.
 
:( it realy upsets me there is people out there who go around doing this some do it for drug money,others do it for the money,others all so do it because of jealousy.

my gramp said when i was a young lad we could leave our front doors wide open and go to 1mile up the road to the shops and know it would be safe.

I said yes thats cus you had nothing worth stealing heheh.

Oh please, first off the police and judiciary system is not useless, if they didn't exist you would most definitely notice and complain further.

Secondly the police and judiciary system are not the problem, it's your fellow human beings and you can't fix them with police or systems of justice.

Depends what kind of area you live in I guess. That's not snobbery btw, just that some areas are more prone to theft/vandalism and it's often not committed by the people who live there.

Luckily I've not had to shell out as much as Jonny69, just a couple of padlocks for the sheds and a couple of bike locks for when they're out & about. That said, I got the padlocks off my Dad as he'd bought the wrong ones for what he needed. Bonus! :D

Stealing has been going on forever. It's nothing new, it's always been the society we live in, people get robbed.
It's got nothing to do with the police why crime figures are higher, it's bad parenting.
