Oooo RSS feeds?? that was the easiest way to stream music to your PSP, could be the start of music and video streaming to the PS3!

Still doesn't look like they have added folders though :(

Just saw this too, looks interesting doesnt seem that much of a jump to warrant the increase from 1 to 2 though. Acess the XMB from game is going to be useful and id like to know how well all the changes are going to work, wonder when it will be available?

accessing the xmb during gameplay would be, definitely. worth it for that alone.

With the wallpaper feature will it be the end of the dodgy swirling lines and the "guess the colour" of the XMB each month.

Yeap, providing you can see your friends list i would be pretty much happy with the PSN then

Wonder if that means we can play our music so we can have our own music in game? Something ive never cared about but people have wanted it.

Agreed, Another thing i hope they bring out some time is Cross game invites!

Yeah but cross game invites are kinda simple to do, providing you can get to your mailbox, all you need is template for a Text message saying 'joing me in..' and providing message notification works then you are golden. If sony can even provide something that simple then you are sorted.
One think i hope sony implement is 'Darkaber has signed onto Resistance' for example rather than you have just signed on. Live is the same and i wish it would tell you what game lol

Yeah that could be cool tbh :)

definitely some good features there.

A graphic equalizer for music would suit me too. I may even start to use the PS3 for playing MP3z if I can get it to sound just as I like, and also multitask properly.

Many other features looking good, but for the love of god, why no DVD upscaler yet?

I did a test the other day. Pulled an MPG file off my PVR.

I burned it to a DVDRW "as is" and to another one, authored to DVD video.

Played the MPG file on the PS3, the TV stayed in 1080p, and the image looked great. Sharper than it had from the PVR to TV, in fact I was quite impressed with the IQ. Especially as it was something recorded from Ch5, which doesn't have the worlds best bitrate anyway.

Put the authored DVD version in. My TV switched to 576p, and it definitely didn't look as sharp. I'm not saying it looked terrible, the Bravia seems to do a pretty good job of SDTV, but having the PS3 upscale it to 1080p was obviously the best.

It's obviously no big deal, if we can play MPG, or MP4, at various resolutions, and have the PS3 output them at 1080p, why not do the same for DVD?

If it wasn't such a hassle, I'd now watch all prerecorded stuff from my PVR via the PS3 as it looks better. If I could stream from my PC I would do, ah well, maybe get that feature one day too! ;)

V1N.

hmm. lots of possibilities if they give us direct access to the xbm rather than just the friends list

I was expecting the scaling to 720P issue to be solved in 2.00

Apart from that I guess the killer addition is the XMB access during games. (Assuming this gives us Xbox Live features like messaging and chat in game, independent of the game you are playing).

I wanted them to remove the green screen when using scart rgb for dvd/br. I cant quite aford the hdtv yet. ;(

stupid feature when they claim to be pushing hd when they cant even master sd. I always avoided sony dvd/dvd-rs due to the green sceen.

You mean the scaling from 1080i to 720p issue for people with the older HDTV's? if so i think that is going to be game patches, i dont think a firmware will fix that.

No,

The fact that if you want to play a Blu-Ray it will only run in either 1080i/p or 480p. If you set your system to be 720P it will only play the film at 480p.

So at the moment I have my PS3 set to accept 480/576/720. which is fine for games as all of them support 720p, If I use this setting then a Blu-ray becomes 480p. At the moment I add the 1080i mode in the ps3 before playing a Blu-ray, then I have to change it back to 720P for games. This happens to anyone who has a HDTV that supports 720P & 1080i but NOT 1080P which is probably 95% of HDTVs sold in this country. Plus as most if the Tvs that support these modes are 1280*768 or 1366*768 it forces your TV to do the scaling, instead of the PS3.
