I was expecting the scaling to 720P issue to be solved in 2.00

I'm with you on this one, as soon as the PS3 can play blu-ray @ 720p all my dvd's will be winging thier way onto the bay, I'm not holding out much hope on Sony fixing this option though tbh, it's a well publicized issue yet they don't seem to be botherd.

So at the moment I have my PS3 set to accept 480/576/720. which is fine for games as all of them support 720p, If I use this setting then a Blu-ray becomes 480p. At the moment I add the 1080i mode in the ps3 before playing a Blu-ray, then I have to change it back to 720P for games.

Can I ask why you don't like playing games at 1080i? If you have a TV which is only 1366x768 I don't think you would be able to tell the difference between 1080i and 720p.

I was generally under the impression that you pick the screen res that closest matches what your screen has. So my Tv is closer to 720P than 1080i so the Tv has to do virtually no scaling to make a 720P signal into 1366*768.

Also i have noticed when you flip through the XMB fast in 1080i mode it sort of tears. I guess this varies from TV to Tv though, whcih is why it would be better if the PS3 did all the scaling and not the TVs.

Edit: I connect via HDMI

I have a 27inch LCD TV that has a native res of 1366x768, no hdmi just component, plays anything @ 720p perfect, 1080i though is awfull on my set, the screen shimmers/flickers.

Eventually you can access your friends list in game then through the XMediaBar? :D

Thats all i wanted from Sony, glad they have done it.

Not strictly on topic but this thread is attracting all the Sony fans so its probably the best place.

Is there any more news on accessing the PS1 download store on your PSP, i don't really fancy getting a PS3 so i don't follow the PS scene as much as the rest of you.

Someone give me some hope that FFVII will be in my hands sometime before the year end.

Where is the PSN content?

Many places are saying Calling all Cars is coming to UK/EU store this week. No idea when the other stuff (ps1 games for ps3/psp) are coming as well as the arcade ports (MK2, Gauntlet 2 etc). Got fed up off waiting, persaonlly, so i setup a USA account. Not ideal by any means!

I wouldn't bank on it for a while. RIght now they have just started, with things like destruction Derby and wipeout. Not exactly big strains on Emulation software. Also isn't FFVII like 3 disks? the games ou just now are quite small, but a game at 3 discs or so is going to be what 2 Gig almost? it is quite a lot to D/L and store.

I think they will do it, but it wont be for a while , i am hoping they release MGS on it :)

That sounds depressingly accurate, although you can get a 2gb stick for around the price of a new PSP game these days so i'll still hold out hope for a little while longer.

Trust Sony to miss the things that really matter. Ah well I don't care if I see the PS get steamrolled over by the competition any more. They totally deserve it for being so crap content and games-wise.

I mean, look at the massive hype-train event that is Halo 3, Sony can't even do a pathetic response to it - I remember them swinging into full motion when Halo 2 was being advertised, now they can't even muster up anything like any new info on games like MGS4, or a price drop, or whatever. It's quite pathetic how Sony is putting its tail between its legs.

Where's the fighting spirit ?

They are like a sleeper cell. When Halo 3 comes out, nobody will care because everyone will be too busy with home and LBP :D Though i'll be doing both lol

And with Playstation Day coming shortly, and the Home beta has just started, expect quite a lot of news over the next week or so.

TBH there really isn't any point in trying to counter Halo 3. Halo is a hugely over rated series IMO but it sells in the bucketload. Not much could counter it tbh. Though halo 2 isn't getting a warm welcome on the PC reviews that i have read, no only as far as graphics, but gameplay too.

Sony Gamers day (Sonys own E3) starts today till weds but theres a NDA until end of the week. With the news from the Square Enix event this week its not been that bad for Sony. Halo 3 is the microsoft Mario, Sony on the other had does not seem to have an Iconic Game in my opinion they have many.

Name some icons then. All I can think of are once-golden but now desecrated and defiled icons that had such potential but got thrown away. Crash Bandicoot is one example. I'm sure we all remember the infamous opposing bandicoot and hedgehog burger stalls outside one of the later 90's E3 shows.

Yes it is good that Sony is forging with new IPs, but if the best they have is Home and LBP, and some hyping on Killzone 2, then God help them.
