The purpose of dual-sim on a phone?

I used to have a dual sim nokia as I was travelling a lot around Europe, and still wanted to keep in touch on my UK number - worked pretty well. :)

Hardly any need for it now though as most PAYG and contracts are so cheap it's almost pointless.

I'm really surprised people don't use it more for business use. I'm even more shocked that BlackBerry haven't done a dual SIM version of their newest phones, that plus BlackBerry Balance would be pretty cool IMHO.

This is coming fairly soon via VMware and a few other people but the bigger reality is that with dual dom/work handsets it creates confusion when it's a single device (who owns it, work can remote wipe your kids pictures etc...) so a lot of companies just opt to not bother with the drama.

Ahh I see that makes sense, never thought of it like that. I've seen people end up using their personal number for work use, which I certainly wouldn't like so I'd probably have to go down the dual device route.
