The Radeon RX 5700 XT Owners Thread.

Really interested in getting the 5700XT Red Devil and all the reviews praise the card but then I read the AMD drivers thread here and there still seems to be a lot of issues with some people and 5700XT. Is the drivers still a major issue last I had heard was that the problems where mostly fixed?

I have a 5700xt and most are fixed

The 20.4.1 drivers didn't work for me (see my posts earlier in this thread). I just saw that 20.4.2 were released on the 23rd so perhaps they're better.

I did get a DirectX crash in Warzone last night. I can't say for certain that it was related to AMD's drivers, but it does bring back nightmares of a similar problem I had in Battlefield 4 with R9 290 cards.

I don't know if it's just a coincidence, but for me iv always found the recommended drivers (WHQL) far more stable than the optional drivers.

Personally I'd only install the recommended, as from my understanding to get WHQL status the drivers have to pass far greater stability tests.

Four BSOD just this morning from a 5700XT Red Devil trying to browse websites. When it's good it's very very good, but when it is bad it is horrid! I've wasted easily more than £100 of my time trying to fix this card with various testing and re-installing the OS, so cutting my losses. That's a 22 year run of ATI/AMD gfx cards coming to an end!

Hey guys, my first post here!
I recently purchased a red devil x5700xt and have been reading on uhdervolting the card but I seem to be getting strange results.

  1. When I undervolt to 1950/1000 my clock speed is actually 1800 when running OCCT, is this not low?
  2. The delta between the GPU and junction is all over the place with differences from 15c to 20c between both, is this normal?
Thank you for helping out a beginner!

1. Normal. However don't use OCCT, just test a proper game and generally you should find the GPU clock 50Mhz +/-5-10% lower than what you set in GPU Tuning. Make sure you have the power limit at +50% or whatever the maximum setting is.
2 Normal. Try and keep junctions below 110c.

I had mixed results undervolting. For the most part it works, for hours, gaming, not gaming, then random lockup/restart. I went back to stock for a while, but games crashed anyway :) (Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Far Cry 5, The Division 2, not hard lock) so I went back to light undervolt currently 1900Mhz/1020mv. Seems fine so far, many hours of gaming/not gaming, this time Red Dead Redemption 2 testing! These days games are so unstable anyway doing a stability test at all is hard to know if that was due to undervolting or not.

WHQL doesn't mean a thing these days.

Well I took the leap and have a Powercolor 5700XT Red Devil ordered! Excited to get it. But I am bit wary over the issues people are having. First real sign of issues I could see it going back.

I was the same as you, wary and worried I'd have issues but touch wood I've had no problems so far in the week I've had mine and used it everyday for about 4 or 5 hours, using the 2.4.1 drivers.

So hopefully it will be the same for you and you've got red devil one up from me as I've got the red dragon, only complaint I've got is a bit of coil whine but can only hear it when at over 100fps and no sound coming out the speakers.

Just ordered myself a Nitro+ to replace my reference card.

£324.98

No, you're not hallucinating. There's a bunch of 5700XTs in the B-grade section right now, starting at £300 for the Power Colour Dual Fan, and going up to £350 for the Nitro+ SE.

A good price but can be a bit iffy, 90 day warranty for £300 isn't great, unless sapphire would still warranty the card.

Damn I wish I had checked in the B-Grade section. £349 for a Strix 5700XT is some deal. Is the Red Devil pretty much the same in terms of performance? I paid £50 more for a new card.

Getting black screen issues :( If my monitor goes into standby, the screen stays black when the monitor powers back on. I found references to this problem on Google dating back to 2014!

How is this still a problem?!

AMD said:
  • Although Radeon Software Adrenalin 2020 Edition 20.2.2 resolves many black screen issues, AMD is aware that some users may still experience black screen or system hang issues during extended periods of gameplay. AMD will continue to monitor and investigate reports of these issues closely.
Report the issue, every time it happens. WHQL drivers ;).

In a strange turn of events I now have 2 5700XT's coming my way! I also ordered a B Grade Gigabyte Aorus 5700XT from here it was only £329. Which will be £80 cheaper!

So i am hoping that the Aorus will be up to standard!

The B-grade Nitro+ arrived.

First impressions:

The card came without any packaging, accessories or documentation. Just an OCUK branded anti-static bag. Upon opening, I noticed the PCI bracket was bent out of shape. I grabbed some pliers and tried straightening it, but I'm pretty sure it'll snap if I bend it any more. So only one screw hole will be usable.

The card itself is huge, and absolutely dwarfs the reference card. It looks nice, but build quality isn't up to reference card standards; some bits are plastic, the metal parts flex, etc. But I bought it for the cooler, really.

Installation wasn't too bad, given the size. I had to take my RAM out to angle it in, and there's maybe 2-3mm of clearance between the card and my front fans. I'm lucky, as I didn't bother to check the length before ordering.

The RGB lighting looks great. I haven't had a play with Trixx yet to customise it, so it's just all blue. But a huge improvement on the red Radeon logo on the reference card (I hated that light). I can now get my whole system lit up one colour.

I've had a brief play in Wattman, which has given me my biggest disappointment. My Ref card would run some decent clocks while undervolted. This... won't. The stock clocks are slightly higher at 2095MHz vs 2068MHz, but the Ref card could run that at 1100mV. The Nitro+ just crashes immediately at the same clock speed and voltage. Will need to have a play around and see what I can do with it to improve power efficiency, as stock pulls 230W for only a very minor performance improvement over the Ref card's 180W. In terms of noise, it's much quieter than the Reference card at stock, but louder than the Reference card with my normal undervolt and underclock. So there's some work to be done.

Overall, first impressions are alright. I'm not impressed by how the card arrived. Combined with the discovery (after ordering) that the mobile site hides the 90-day B-grade warranty statement and just advertises the product with the full manufacturers warranty, and I'm considering returning it. £325 seems much less a bargain than it did at the point of ordering.
