people dont understand the difference when actual gaming has no to little difference in gameplay
but you pay 3x as much for a nvidia card that dont do any difference
utube reviewers dont understand that

I'll echo what a few of us have stated recently, but we are in dire need of old-school reviewers who actually take time to test, describe and compare (and quantify where possible) the actual experience between cards. With new features like DLSS/FSR, frame gen etc. we need this more than ever because virtually no one is showing the actual detractions of using these (which is super apparent when seen first hand, IMO). Historically, this methodology has brought to light (and often ended or forced amelioration) of technologies like SLI/Crossfire, Physx, and varous AA/upscaling tech that had negative impact on IQ and frame stability.

It's not that (most) Youtube viewers don't understand: it's that they are intent on showing only basic FPS metrics because a) this is easier, b) they would get blowback from manuafactuers (and an entire industry) who have a stake in using these new features to generate sales.

Sounds like an opportunity... You wanna start a YouTube channel together, @harmattan ?

:D
I wish, but ain't got no time for that. And therein lies the problem: it's expensive to do this sort of analysis (HardOCP and Anandtech used to do it, both quit and the leads have moved on to more lucrative things).

Also, I'm thinking I'd go all in on the built-to-fail business model and only go hardcopy print (no online presence) via subscription. Or, who knows, maybe that would succeed as it would be so niche hipster tech enthusiasts. "I have that review in hard copy, I only read and collect the magazines." [as they gesture proudly at their library of old 1Up magazines]:)

Not sure about print media (my print copy of the Economist usually goes straight to the recycling bin :(), but I do think there is still a lot of value in written media. I like the hybrid model that HUB/TechSpot uses...

Maybe, if everyone is already doing the same old numbers benchmarking, our new channel (which is totally happening :p) can just skip the numbers - or perhaps just present a meta-summary of other reviewers - and talk solely about the subjective experience and total value prop of the card?

The "scoring" system can be really simple, like Steam's thumbs up vs. down.

Hey Guys whats up... Ricardo from Brazil here.
I have a reference 6900 XT LC card and i need the bios .rom file. I tried flashing it (i know, i know...) and it bricked. I had to use a eeprom CH341 writer to make it come back to life, but i must have used a wrong firmware fire because 2d mode is working fine, but if i try entering any game or any 3d rendering (like furmark), the computer shuts down instantly.
Before messing with amdvbflash, it worked perfectly.
Do you guys have the file? I did not find it at techpowerup.

Yes, grab the file from Tech Power Up.

Curious, since we're coming up on ~5 years of these cards being launched...

Has anyone repasted their GPU core? If so, was it worth it in terms of temps/noise/performance?

Hi mate. I review possible modes to my 6900XT Liquid Devil and will begin work over it like mid Jun.
Plan is to;
-Switch to liquid metal on GPU
-replace termal pads witch termal putty (Fehonda LTP81 18W/mK) I was also considering copper shrims, or a compleete plate like this one (Ebay - 6800/6900XT GPU 15-40 Degree Thermal Pad GPU Heat Sink)
-clean the waterblock

Yeah had to do mine the other month. Literally had no paste left lol. Used MX-6 and I'm seeing ~60ºc when gaming with my undervolt.

Yes, I have repasted mine (AIB Asrock Phantom 6900XT) as part of the build I did a month or so ago (Firegod having his issue above made me check) for my son, more of a just in case thing really, as temperatures weren't as good as they were, but not terrible. I found the pads were still OK but the paste on the actual main GPU was dried out and poorly applied with a lot of "pump out" and very little remaining on the die. I repasted with MX-4 and no problems to report and back to (relatively) cool running.

Edit. I think next time I repaste a card i'll use PTM, but in my experience MX-4 lasts at least 4 years, so it should be good for a while.

I have the same card and it's just over 2.5 years old now and have noticed my temps have been increasing for the last year. I'll have a look at re-pasting mine. They're not high enough to be concerned about just higher than when I originally bought it.

Yes, same period for myself as well (at the time of repasting) and the same symptoms. A worthwhile exercise in my experience.

Link to video I used for reassurance -

The comments also contain a few useful bits of information as well.
