The random-interval personal finances review

Due to gfs health issues I simply can't cope with doing all house solo. And I mean all of it. And walking the dog.

I didn't want to get the cleaner but the stress/mental load was really damaging.

See the relationship thread for details
I had a cleaner in my last place and my word was it the best thing I've ever done.

For solely lazy/selfish reasons to be fair, but I like a clean place (but don't really enjoy cleaning) and was spending 2/3 hours every weekend cleaning to get it to a standard I like.

Why would I spend those hours doing something I don't enjoy? You can always earn more money but will never be able to get more time.

I realise that i'm in a very privileged position compared to some people where that outgoing won't make a difference though!

Thames water to be reviewed

Reviewed as in look into switching to rain water or.... ?
:)

Surely whoever supplies your water supplies your water? Or do you mean review usage? Most people will save from being on a meter if you are not already. Some won't though. We use a lot because we have teenagers that take 25 minute showers despite me flicking the breaker off to try to let it sink in that its not ok. Teens eh.

The main outstanding one I've got to look at is netflix via vpn. I have spotify family on vpn and we pay about 3 quid a month.

Kind of same conclusion.

I could spend 1/4 of my weekend cleaning or could pay for someone to do it. The cleaner is more efficient than me (can get 2x as much done as I can in same time) and her hourly rate is less than mine.

Time is valuable

But with a cleaner, how does it work? Let's take my kitchen right now... in the corner we have about 6 boxes from deliveries that I need to open and do stuff with at some point, a set of golf clubs, 4 pairs of shoes, 2 pairs of sliders, 3 coats, a few jumpers, a wash load waiting to go in the washing machine on the floor next to it, a load in a basket the other side of the kitchen waiting to go in the dryer, a dishwasher that needs emptying so more can go in it, a toolbox, my dewalt drill, a packet walnut whips half eaten, a 95% complete massive lego set and a pair of wet - probably mouldy - wellies. What does a cleaner do with all that ****? Half of it doesn't even have permanent homes...they just exist. The kitchen is fairly "clean" just full of ****. It's just life with several kids and being in the middle of 1001 things.

If it is anything like the cleaner I had at my shared flat she would put all that in a bin bag and hide it in the living room cupboard lol.

Edit: this is fresh laundry and post:

I try and tidy things as much as possible.
I'm bad for this, leaving stuff out, so it's a quick tidy at lunch before she comes. She's only here an hour and a half so moving stuff means she can do more.

Stop being so messy :p

I live alone, and don't have a huge amount of "stuff," so a 15 min "tidy" is all that's needed before the cleaner comes round on a Friday afternoon while i'm at work.

Cleaners are there to clean, not tidy up, so I make sure that nothing is in their way of that.
