The Real CPU temperature

This has been a question bugging me since ive started monitoring my CPU's temperature. When people say "yeh, while running PRIME95 I get my CPU up to 60degrees". Does that mean that the "CPUTIN" has got to 60degrees, or the 1/2/3/4 cores have an average of 60 degrees centigrade? (CPUTIN was in "HWMonitor", I think it means CPU outside temperature. Again, if you could actually tell me what CPUTIN means, I'd be delighted.) Thanks.

So, when people talk about CPU temperatures, they talk about Core temperatures?

Thanks for the Replys. To clarify, Use Realtemp for readings, and Core temperature average (as I have 4 cores) for showing off?
