The Reference 580gtx thread

Do a Heaven bench, I'd be interesting to compare the scores.

I just rerun heaven at same settings as yesterday, but without internet browser in the background :p

@ 892 core I get almost identical scores to this, but with 28.9 min 65.8 av. Thats with q6700 @3.7ghz. Clearly your better CPU gives a decent headstart!

@ 853 core (1.065v) I get 10.2/59.1/1488 so the OC gives a good boost.

892core needs 1.1v to stay stable gaming for ages but at 1.1v it will do 912core for a heaven run of 66.7/1679- This will run metro bench fine but found it faltered when playing metro for a while, so not fully stable.

892core/1.1v stays @ 75C @75% fan. Pretty happy with this- don't mind a bit of noise to keep the temp down a bit

Sorry, been busy the last few days, only now got some time to do a bit more tweaking/OCing...

Well, the hardest I can push my 580 is this:

Anything above 870Mhz and no matter what volts I apply, it crashes at some point in Heaven. Maybe its my ageing PSU that cant supply enough clean power for OC- not sure. Temps never go above 86C regardless of voltage - even at 1.1V (with fan on about 66% in auto setting). So there we are:)

I wanna know where we can get the latest nvidia 580 bios that have the 30-100% fan speed

evga has an update to unlock 30-100 but i dont really wanna try that on my pny card (locked 45-80% fans)

it will work fine on your card just flash back if U sell on or rma

@ Borsch,

Your sigs out of date :D

Also, when its at 86c and 66% fan speed, how noisy are you finding it?

Yeah, I know :D

I find it okayish/tolerable. Yeah, its more noisy than the DirectCu 460 when at load, but around the same as 8800gts 512mb that I had and loved to bits:) Unlike with the 8800 though I do not hear the actual fan spinning, just the jet of air wooshing through the vapour chamber of the 580.

The card is brilliant performance wise - about double of my 460. Zero problems with games/drivers/etc. Works like clockwork. Here is my OCed 460 Heaven score:
gtx460 768Mb @ 850Mhz/2150Mhz (stock volts) :)

7850 with its bigger VRAM is gnawing away at my mind, but Bradmax57 switched from his heavily OCed 7850 to 580 (to 670 lol) as he said that 7850 just wasnt smooth in BF3 compared to 580 he previously had. So yeah... :)

Thanks for the feedback :)

I'd stay with the 580 if I were you, its not just down to ram as you know, and if the 580 performs the way you want it to then I'd be happy, for me, since selling my much loved GTX470 that ran without a hitch, I've been through a 580 Twin FrozrII (though I think it was faulty) to a 670, then 7950 and now the MSI 7970 Lightning, and I still can't get my main game to run the way I want it to.

The 670 ran it perfectly but I was concerned over the stuttering business and that nVidia wouldn't get a fix for it (more worried about my future games as current games were ok), but I'm now having second thoughts and thinking either another 670 or a 580?? as I know at least it'll run fine without any hiccups? Faster isn't always better!

Yeah, I think I'll stick with the 580. I think:) It still does not run my fav games (Rise oF FLight and IL2:CLOD) totally smoothly at very highest settings/supersampling, but CLOD is bugged to hell and back anyway and RoF looks as good without supersampling (for which I'd need a 680/7970 anyway - and that's too much for one graphical feature)...
