The right/wrong way of getting a job

I was at my my local job centre today and found a brilliant job. Looking at the applying for the job section, I had to ring up the main job centre. The lady on the other end said I had to send my CV to a particular person and email address. Now within the employers email address is the name of the company, so I did a google search and they've got a website with their address on it.

So do you think its a good idea for me to go down to the company and hand my CV in person ?, or will this look a bit intrusive to the employer, as I was clearly told to send my CV by email. As I have been out of work for a long time I'm desperate to get back to a working environment, and believe this job is perfect for me.

If you think its right for me to go down in person, what type of questions should I ask ? as I don't want to come across as cheeky/arrogant, or should I just hand my CV and go ?, or just send my CV by email ?

Im sure they would appreciate you making the effort to hand your CV in, in person.

Gives you a chance to meet the employer too.

Things might be quicker if you headed down and gave it in yourself.

I'd call to ask who the covering letter/CV should be addressed to rather than just giving it in to a random to misplace. If you can, ask if you can give it to them personally (if they have time to meet you) and just explain you wanted to hand it in in person and you look forward to hearing from them and leave it at that.

I know the person name and that his head manager, from the website around 10-15 people work there.

Every time I've seen someone take a CV in person, the people at the company just seem to be hassled by it.

This. Unless you are very lucky and the person you need to see has loads of spare time on their hands, it just annoys me when people do that and fail to follow the instructions.

If it says applications by email then I would send direct via email as instructed. Why go down in person? More effort for you and then the person who more than likely isn't going to redirect your application.

I got my first proper job by turning up without an appointment and asking to speak with the manager. After informing him I was looking for employment, he gave me an interview and offered me a job right there and then.

You're right though, that sort of thing may impress one person and antagonise the other, so you're definitely taking a chance by being so bold.

Damn, I now even more confused. The reason why I'm thinking so hard about this decision is that I know there will be over 1000 applicants because its a good job prospect. Therefore I somehow need to get to the front of the pile and get recognised to at least get a interview.

Surely if it clearly says applications via e-mail you're suggesting that you can't follow instructions if you then go and give it to him in person?

That said I did manage to get a job before by going to the store in person and asking when I was going to hear If I'd got an interview or not. He gave me an interview there and then and offered me the job.

What I would do is send my CV by email and then go down and check to see if they have received it in person.

It's entirely possible they simply won't take it from you over the desk.
