Has anyone read/seen this? I read the book yesterday and then watched the film today, I have to say both are brilliant.
I've read 5 Cormac McCarthy books so far and while this isn't my favourite it probably is the best, like all of his books they are so well written and unlike anyone else I've ever read before. I've read all 5 in the last 2 months and will be getting his other 5 before long, read everything he has written.
I think only the Godfather is a better film than it is a book and even then its close and true to that trend I'd advise anyone to read the book first, its not very long and big writing so for all you illiterates scared of reading stop being tarts and get on it. I seriously think this book will be taught in schools in the next couple of years, its a front runner for the Nobel Prize, he's already won a Pulitzer and countless other awards and considered possibly the greatest living American author.
As for the film though, very well shot, Viggo Mortensen with his gaunt look was made for a role like this, the kid is alright but it woulda been a well hard role to play. I'm convinced now that Michael K Williams is one of the most under rated actors working today, anyone who has seen the Wire wont disagree for one but even though he is only in this film for a little bit his performace is just perfect.
There are better films, more entertaining books and probably more educational story lines but I reckon its been a long time before I've seen such a combination of the 3.
Anyone know what I'm on about?
