The RX Vega 56 Owners Thread

I broke my 56 with various ham fisted attempts at cooling and other ideas... ooops.
Damm things went up a hundred quid since i bought it so i will be keeping my fury for a wee while longer.

Before i send it to you though I will get Alphacool to send some new pads and some new screws. You get it working we will work out a price, otherwise send it back to me and the world is a happy place!

So i tried Vinces bios instead, and tested extensively, and can confirm, my card will not perform properly in games with the 64 bios.
In a benchmark it is a massive upgrade, keeps steading clocks and Hbm awesome.
In games it does not EVER hold steady clocks, i tried power saving, balanced, turbo, custom with just 50%, UV, OC, all different values and mv for the p6 aqnd p7 and hbm mv I CANNOT get it to stop fkiing wiggling around all the time, its very very upsetting.

The Picture i posted above shows you my pain.

Bouncy... what game is that btw? some games just dont use gpu resources well.

That is very kind of you, I can't log into trust it says user name incorrect, but it's not.

EVery game i play does that, that particular one was evil within 2. But all games do that BUT not in the menu screens. In the menu screens for any game, it behaves PERFECTLY. It's soooooooooooooooo annoying.

Love to play Pubg with you sometime, and please can you help me on how to email you. When i click trust it has a seacrh box saying "find" or log in, thats my choices.
It says use the same log in as for Ocuk forum, that doesnt work either. i tried googling how to sign up to the trust thing and its just other threads talking about "just press the trust button" ..............

Have you tried maxing out the settings? I used to have a similar problem until I bumped up some settings to keep the gpu usage at 100%, which also lowered CPU usage so it could be a cpu bottle neck? I'm running a i7 3770 non-K.

Yeah I tried this also, its like the card with the 64 bios uses gpu usage as a way to manage the clocks , it doesnt do this with the stock bios.
When the game goes to the options the clock will go to the right mhz, then in game it will bounce as the graphics get more intensive or less.
Playing Pubg or Evil within 2 , 1080p ultra everything gets me 40-60fps jumping around with the clocks, and in The evil within 2 , i get 30fps steady on 1080p 1440p and 4k settings ultra, doesnt matter what i choose.....
It's really really really really annoying me now.
Shame coz on the 56 bios i can get 1675 and 945 hbm no problem and it stays at those ..

*edit, I have a i5 6600k @ 4Ghz 2666mhz 16gb DD4

In wattman have you tried setting p6 to min state and p7 to max state to see if that helps?

To be fair mine hasn’t improved much either. Yes I can run max setting now vs my RX480, but as before two of my CPU cores are maxed out while the other 14 sit idle, hence the actual fps can’t go up.

. I should have got a 7700k since every thing I play only uses 1-2 cores.

3dMark scores may have gone up hugely but I am left a little disappointed, especially with the card sitting there at 50% load when the fps tanks in some scenes.

I just wonder what peoples case temp is when trying all this extra cooling. I would want that lower before anything more involved with the card. Nexus did a good vid on that which applies to Vega, tends to waffle a bit but he aint wrong

So as I said I would do, I have been tinkering like a madman on this 64 bios, had some weird hiccups, like the amd crimson self installing 17.7.2 on me which shouldn't even work on the vega.
But got it to stay stable playing some games and a absolute beast of a 3dmark Firestrike score https://imgur.com/a/ParwY
Very proud of this indeed.

I can see though that if you put the hbm even 1mhz over 1100mhz the whole system hangs, same thing with the core, anything over 1730mhz and it hangs, no matter what i do to it.
I got this score by using the +200 power mod but even that only got me from 1690 to 1730mhz on the core.

So to finalise, vega 56 with 64 bios +200% Power limit , 6.5% (1730mhz) core at 1200mv p6+p7 1100mhz hbm with 1200mv got me that score - 16763 (24629 graphics score) 100% fans 100% of the time.
Stock 56 bios score of 14235 (21255 graphics score)
What a journey, and what a beast of a card.

*edit - i5 6600k at 4.2ghz let my score down, otherwise my overall score would have been worthy for the leaderboards.
*edit2 Got 16850 ( 24767 graphics) with the 17.10.1 driver

Not sure whats going on with your Vega56 but heres mine with the Sapphire 64 bios on it. Clocks seem nice and stable compared to yours. This was monitored when playing BF1 average boost seems to be around 1615mhz.
Only difference I can see are my temps due to mine being under a full cover water block

Yeah in project cars 2 it is stable i think it was just battlegrounds and evil within 2 that i tested with did not hold steady clocks.
That's a nice undervolt you have there, what driver do you use. (i'm jealous of your temperatures also
