*** The Samsung Galaxy Note 7 Thread ***

Are you?

I would like a replacement but depending on how the next stage is handled I may go for one. We don't now what happens next so you'll probably be asking again then.

Same here Cosimo no other phone interests me or looks as hot :p

thought I cannot see note 7 getting 2 years worth of software updates after this

Many news reports are stating today it's rumoured that Samsung will pull the plug permanently on the Note 7 as it's damaging the brand. All current users being advised to power them down and stop using them.

Stupid Samsung.

Nice to see EE and Vodafone providing their customers with refunds, etc and announcing things straight off the bat.

As usual o2 customer service is god awful.

I'll be getting a refund, a sim only deal and going for the Pixel.

Thinking about Samsung's dilemma within the Android universe of phones.........

Some reports are saying that an unexpected beneficiary of the Note 7 debacle for Samsung could be the Google Pixel phones that launch officially in 9 days and will be available at EE and Carphone Warehouse to trial. Pre-order began at the Google Play Store last week. I am doubtful that Apple will be a beneficiary in any major way high end users are likely to view the switching costs from Android to iOS as too great, considering the apps they have already purchased. I think other Android OEMs are the more likely choice. LG and Huawei may also benefit.

How damaging to Samsung is the Note 7 including the messed up recall?

1. Samsung had replaced approximately 70% of the originally shipped Note 7 when the halt to sales caused by the battery fault of Samsung SDI was initiated. The replacement batch used the same battery as the original 30% of Note 7s being from Amperex of China. As these too are faulty, this could add $ 1.0-$1.5 billion to the cost of the recall bringing the total to $ 2.0-$ 2.5 billion.
2. But the real cost is the damage to brand reputation. While initially this looked like the issue would blow over, it now appears that continuing to ship defective devices was a bad judgement call by Samsung. I believe Note 7 users are more likely than not to switch manufacturers within Android.

This Samsung problem is likely to benefit sales of the Google Pixel, more so than when Google was selling the Nexus line because Pixel is such a high profile/high end device and a well-advertised product launch for Google. It remains to be seen whether Google is able to accelerate the Pixel product launch prior to 20 October to take full advantage of this window.

I had not seen JamesM's post before I posted my comment above.

This is really critical now, and damaging to Samsung's mobile brand. As rumoured I think they'll just have to pull the entire phone from sale now and start a new chapter with the Note line of phones.

They should point out that the battery technology is the same as in other phones, so it's a dodgy set of batteries rather than something they've done... right?

What about all us poor sods that have paid out for accessories like the led view case it cost me £44 who picks up that bill for that,

I got the wireless charger and two cases, I doubt there will be any compensation for the fact that they're now useless to me. It's not right but this will be the last time I buy a Samsung phone.
