Hey all,

As I expected - after hardly any news on The Sims 3 release for a while - it has indeed been delayed!

Previously expected to have hit stores this month, it has now been moved to a lengthy date of "June 2nd 2009"!

IGN.com said:
The Sims 3, Electronic Arts' next big entry in the blockbuster real-life simulation franchise, has been delayed for the PC. Originally scheduled to be released at the end of this month, the game will now ship on June 2nd, 2009.

According to Russell Arons, Vice President of Marketing at EA, "The June launch combined with the break-through game the team is building gives us the perfect runway to create awareness for The Sims 3. [It] will be the original IP summer blockbuster of 2009 as we build off the success of the best-selling PC franchise of all time to create awareness with both loyal Sims fans and new players."

The game will introduce a number of new features to the franchise, including an open town for your created Sims to explore.

Having owned all the Sims games to date, I feel a little let down as I was secretly looking forward to this.

:(

Yeah I read a couple of weeks ago there was major problems with development and that they would need at least 6 months to sort them out and they were worried EA wouldn't give them that kind of time, of course EA has seeing how this will be the biggest money maker of the year.

brilliant another few months of peace and quiet before its shoved down our throats every two seconds on tv:D

Expected I guess. I used to play a lot of the sims games when I was younger, aren't really as bothered for this one anyway.

I don't know why people keep buying the crud!

Seriously, what can be worse than wasting your life playing a game where you control the life of a computer generated human living a life that you should be doing yourself? At least with normal games you get to do something that you can't usually do in real life without ending up in jail or a mental institute! :)

The Sims is a good game, I look at it like my own little Soap Opera.
Just because it isn't to your liking doesn't mean you should think its a bad game.

EA do milk it, which annoys a lot of gamers.

I don't even class the Sims as a game tbh :)

Granted, if you just set it up at the start and set a bunch of predefined characters and then you just checked in to see how they are doing I could understand the fascination.

But telling someone to cook, clean, etc  That's what girlfriends are for :p

I've played up the second one, its not a good game, even if I liked it I could say it's not a good game.

You've also got to add in the fact that EA release a new addon every couple of months and stupid prices to keep the cash coming in. My sister in law must have wasted nearly £200 on games + addons and that will continue to grow when the new one comes out.

Oh, and Dom, nothing wrong with your spelling mate, I am not the sort of loser that resorts to picking on other peoples spelling and grammar to make myself feel better! :p

But that's what The Sims is about too, you're basically playing God. You create the environment, the characters, you control their actions and interactions, and it just plays out like that.

Clearly they are good games, otherwise they wouldn't be so popular. EA are certainly guilty of milking the franchise far too much and cashing in on the gullibility and ignorance of their target market (mostly people who don't know much about gaming and aren't going to research purchases), but if those expansions are continuing to sell well, I can only assume they haven't' alienated their market just yet.

This isn't aimed at anyone in particulur but I Dunno what this stigma is that people have for the Sims franchise...it's more of a game than some of the rubbish we see.

I've never been into it much and find EA's milking of it abhorrent at times but the fact is millions love it (my kids being an example). What do people have against others enjoying themselves?

Persnoally though, I'm more annoyed about Dragon Age being delayed in this announcement....

Shame to hear it, I'm looking forward to it.
Although I must say that since Spore I've become a bit wary of Will Wright games.
Spore was the most overblown game of Simon anyone could possibly imagine.

I only preordered this for the kids last week :(

Still if it helps them get the Battlfiels releases out sooner then it's all good \O/
