Unlucky, But tbh, they announced the pre-order thing 3 days ago, I bet the only people who got it today paid extra for delivery. Plus a lot of people were saying delivery date showed as 2nd Sep, which is Tuesday.

Still got time to go to shops, I think, plus local Apple Store is open till 8.

Even more confused now. I thought SL was fully 64 bit, hence only working on Intel Apple machines. Are you saying that only some apps/machines will even work with 64 bit mode?

Sounds like a cockup tbh, Why have they left out at least 3 fairly standard/important applications? I just assumed non 64 bit stuff will run in some sort of 32bit compatability mode. So to use 64 bit Safari, you forego using Front Row, or iTunes at the same time without a reboot?

No, 32-bit apps like iTunes, etc will run as normal in a 64-bit environment.
No booting in and out of 64 required.

I see. In that case why would you not boot into 64 bit by default, and even have the extra option? Seeing as 32bit apps will just run as per normal?

I think it's to do with the way Apple have rolled out the architecture - enabling it only on certain machines, etc. Gradual changeover to 64-bit.
On the other hand I'm not entirely sure.

Cant seem to get .avi's to play in Quicktime X, any reasons?

Done that Flip4Mac thing yet?

It's down to the third party kernel extensions. A 32 bit kernel extension will not work with a 64 bit kernel (and vice versa).

So if you have m-Audio Hardware, for example, then they will need to develop the 64 bit driver kernel extension. By defaulting to 32 bit it means people's things work from the start.

I see, so it is mostly for drivers of non Apple integrated hardware? That makes sense. Assuming I never plug in any hardware to my MBP apart from Mass Storage Devices, I should be able to just keep 64 bit mode?

Flip4Mac is for wmvs only?

Still no show of mine, though I did order on the up to date program...it has shipped and should arrive on or before 2nd September.

Not that it matters as i'm waiting for delivery of my SSD before installing

I've installed it on my machine now and it took around the 45 minutes they said so that was good, freed up 10gig of space on my hard drive as well. The new stacks are much better as well, and thanks to this thread it's now booting into 64bit by default although I'm not sure how much difference it will make. I think it seems faster but I'm not sure if thats just metal as I know it was meant to increase speed. Overall I can't really complain for £25.

Just got my copy. Any idea on whether I'm likely to run into problems on a last gen mini? 2.0c2d, 2gb ram, 120gb hd, intel945.
Why should you? The non-evil part of Apple's hardware lock-in is supposed to be guaranteed compatibility with their own systems.

Can anyone confirm the build number of this then?
