is it still £30 ish for people that didnt get a early deal ??? wonder when the jungle site will start to take pre-orders, or any were for that matter

Yes, it was announced at the keynote that the upgrade will be available for $29, that's not going to be a time-limited offer. There's no confirmation on the UK price yet.

The fact that some people have already had their £7.95 for the 'upgrade if you've recently bought a Mac with Leopard' offer makes me think that it's going to ship early September or perhaps even late August.

*shrug* If you'd upgraded to Leopard then it would have only been $29. You can't expect to be able to skip a major release and still get the cheap upgrade deal. It's one hell of a step from Tiger to Snow Leopard.

I didn't want anything that Leopard offered, so of course I wasn't going to upgrade. It seems only reasonable to me to have a mid point price for a Tiger upgrade.

" You can't expect to be able to skip a major release and still get the cheap upgrade deal" - I upgrade my the main OS I used frequently and for free - so yes I can expect that.:p

Buy Leopard disc on ebay (£35-40)
Buy Snow Leopard disc from Apple (£29)

That's another way to consider..

Hmm.
Windows 98 to Windows 2000 - Not free
Windows 2000 to Windows XP - Not free
Windows XP to Windows Vista - Not free
Windows Vista to Windows 7 - Not free
Windows 2000 to Windows Vista - Not free
etc

OS X Jaguar to OS X Panther - Not free
OS X Panther to OS X Tiger - Not free
OS X Tiger to OS X Leopard - Not free
OS X Leopard to OS X Snow Leopard - Not free
OS X Tiger to OS X Snow Leopard - Not free
etc

Linux something or other to Linux something else or ther - Free
etc

You can't seriously be expecting a free upgrade from Tiger to Snow Leopard?

EVHs idea would work out the cheapest.

I'd happily pay a reasonable price for the upgrade($50 perhaps) but not $89, that's more expensive that the Windows 7 pre-order

You could have done if you'd upgraded to Leopard. But you decided to skip it. If you wanted nothing in Leopard, what is it that you want in Snow Leopard?

I finally found a page to do that but it told me my serial number was invalid. Probably because it was on the USA site - Is there a UK link?

If the latest version released to developers is the GM then at no point, ever, does the installer ask for you to prove that you had leopard installed.

I'd wager on you being able to walk into an apple store and pick up a copy for ~£20 no questions asked too.

Developers use separate partitions for testing and such - they would never make them install Leopard and THEN Snow Leopard in order to do that.

But if it IS the GM, y'know the version sent to the disk printers, then happy days.
