Yeah, that's what I was worried about, concentrating rays with a zoom lens through a tiny hole probably isn't a good idea!

With slow lenses (F2.8 or slower) it is nothing to worry about, the focused light barely gets warm. If you are using a fast lens it can be extremely risky. I've managed to light a friend’s cigarette with an 85 f1.4 in a matter of seconds. When the lens is on the camera and focused that cigarette is now your sensor. I found that it was even faster at melting plastic, where it starting burning a hole in the lens cap in the split second when the sunlight was focused. It is useful however if you are useless with making camp fires with sticks and have no lighter or matches. So long as its sunny

Somewhere round here, I have a lens for playing that sort of game with...

It is a plastic fresnel lens. It is square, 60cm x 60cm with a focal length of about 75cm

Take it out on a sunny day and burn anything...

Hmmm... I wonder if I could burn paper with moonlight?...
