...seems to have disappeared off their website!

There's one mention of it under "Web'n'Walk" tariffs, but these are due to be re-vamped for the 1st of April so it looks like it's likely to disappear from there too (and in any case I don't want that particular price plan, knowing what is coming up).

I have sent an email asking why it's gone, and if I could still get it when I phone up for my new tariff on Saturday - will keep you posted on any reply I get.

I made an order for 2 of these on monday, one on its own and one with co-pilot and have been told they are out of stock and waiting for shipment from the manufacturer.

Bit annoying having to wait, however will be a nice surprise if a couple of Vario II's show up :D

Hrrm, that'd be why T-Mob haven't rang me back from upgrade enquiries with the Vario from last week - still not in stock.

A wee bit of insider information tells me Vario II isn't due to turn up until June at the earliest - but maybe the manufacturer has given up on the Vario altogether - that'd be interesting. Then again O2 are still offering the XDA Mini S which is basically the same. Unless they're out of stock too...

How boring, no controversy at all:
Hello Sara

Thanks for your email about the MDA Vario.

I'm pleased to tell you that this phone is still available, however it's been removed from our website as it's currently out of stock.

I can confirm that we receive deliveries of stock every day so I'm sure we'll have more stock in time for the 1st.

Thanks for taking the time to contact me about this Sara, and I hope you receive the phone and plan you'd like very soon.

Kind regards

Helen

Oh well, I still want a Vario :D Can't wait to phone up on Saturday - I wonder if there's any staff on call at midnight Friday night so I don't have to sit in a queue!

Well im over the moon at the mo.

Went into my local T-Mob shop last weekend only to find the Vario out of stock... after enquiring as to when they expected to get more stock in they took my number and lo and behold rang me this morning to say they had received some and had reserved one for me :)

So im now a proud owner of a MDA Vario... go me :D

Grr.. Still no stock :(

they better get some in soon, the waits killing me! :p

Hehe my contract is up and done with T-Mob however I am holding on for the Vario 2 and the new web and walk tariffs.
I have the MDA1 - lovely little device but lack of built in wifi is a shame.

If it was cheaper to run on GPRS I would sue it a lot more than I have done.

When T-Mobile released the last firmware update for the Vario in January they said there would be another one in March. The common thought was that this would include the push e-mail option, stereo bluetooth etc although they didn't say this themselves.. Maybe it's been run down so as all the new stock has the new firmware.

The manager of a T-Mobile store said that they were really popular on the Flext tariff and there are waiting lists in most stores for the Vario.

You can buy the same phone on O2 though. XDA mini S for £49.99 on all of their online tariffs, even the cheapest 12 month ones.

I have had mine for a few days now and am very impressed.

Yeah they seem to be a very popular phone, most of my office are getting them for sat nav etc. I managed to get a free in car charger just by asking in the T Mobile shop. I'm on the £26 a month tariff (flext 35 I think) but haven't used the phone much yet.

I upgradd to a Vario on webalk yesterday, they had one in the store so my choice was between that or a pro.

the pro would have cost £130 more and was way too big.

Got myself one yesterday too - had to spend a good hour in the store as their account set-up system was on a massive go-slow (apparently it's like that every saturday, imagine browsing today's websites on 9600 baud).

The Vario rules :D and the unlimited data gives soooo much freedom! The only problem I have is that it seems to lag right up after sync-ing with the PC, which is a bummer.

I noticed this on the T-Mob site :

*The Relax web 'n' walk and Flext web 'n' walk price plans are subject to a minimum term contact and credit check. Compatible handset required. Fair use policy applies: The web 'n' walk option, Relax web 'n' walk and Flext web 'n' walk price plans provide unlimited internet surfing on mobile handsets in the UK. To ensure a high quality of service for all our customers, they are not to be used for other activities such as (but not limited to): modem access for computers, internet based video/audio streaming services, peer to peer file sharing, internet based video download and internet based telephony. If such use is detected, notice may be given, after which network protection controls may be applied which will result in a reduced speed of transmission.

I was wondering how they would "notice" that you were using it for internet based telephony services?

Still my fingers are crossed that this deal is still around when the vario 2 comes out as that might just be everything i want.

There's probably a fairly telling stream of data that 'looks' a lot like a voice call when you see it on a graph of data vs time or something...

The tariff and W&W stuff will likely still be available but the 25% will be gone. Never know, might be something huge and tempting by another provider by then... unless Orange have burnt themselves out on their daft animal tariffs...
