The Terminator

Exactly. I have no idea what a mimetic poly-alloy looks like, but I do know the T-1000 morphing effects and the reflections on the liquid metal look cool even by today's standards.
I got a hoot out of people who believed they used mercury for some of those liquid metal scenes. Seriously, people? :p

they defiantly should have stopped at T2, one of he few films to surpass the the original.
They had to finish out the storyline, though. All that nonsense about fate and all, they had to show it actually came to pass despite all their efforts. I thought T3 was a quite fitting closure.

They could have done without Salvation, though.

Why?

They did it for one scene. In the steel factory when the T1000 is frozen and shot to pieces and the little pieces then melt and join together - that bit was done with mercury and filmed very carefully if you watch the making of documentary. You can even see it doesn't look like any of the other cgi 'liquid metal' effects anyway.

Because of the toxicity of mercury and the cost. I thought they used molten lead/tin alloy (solder) for that scene?

edit: I do see a link that say it is mercury, not sure of the reliability of the source though. I'll have to watch the making of documentary again.

I mean, I could be wrong. But I am fairly sure I heard James Cameron say it was achieved with real merucry using multiple blow dryers or something to that effect when filming. You're probably right though, they could have said they used real mercury but really used something else.

Are they going to make a terminator Six or whatever we are upto ? One where its actually like the War scenes from 1 and 2 with all the pulse lasers in 40 watt ranges?

Last one i watched was absolute dribble Christian bale was in it is that the latest?

Yes I think terminator 5 is being made. Atleast thats what I read when I come across James Cameron's IMBD or what ever it is page.

Na, just get one with a good screen. I'll admit though the cost could be a problem but still. :p

And the availability. ;)

Don't think there are any laptops with a decent PVA or IPS screen with decent colour rendition that is remotely comparable to a decent well calibrated desktop monitor, probably positioned in a reasonably controlled light environment. ;)

Didnt Bale sign up for three Terminators?

Probably, 4 is supposed to be the start of a new trilogy.

There aren't :) Hence the Eizo. It's still useless if you took it outside on a sunny day though :p

I think the first one is miles better than T2 myself, it's much a darker and has a very isolated feel to it. Like the scene where the terminator busts into the police station, there's nothing like it in the sequels.

Dude, T2 has to be one of if not the best action film of all time. It rules!!! Especially the fully uncut version along with its G&R soundtrack. Don't get me wrong. The first one is a fantastic film, although, the 2nd one hit back with it all. Improved effects, sound track, acting, story full on aceness.

The first to 2nd is a close call. But in my honest opinion, the 3rd doesn't exist.

It's a pain though, would love to sit downstairs and watch TV at the same time, or outside, instead i've been stuck at my desktop for the last couple of days for this very reason... :p

When the third movie was announced I was extremely excited at the thought of a new Terminator movie but at the same time disappointed James Cameron wasn't behind it. Then when I saw it, I felt disgusted and insulted as a huge fan of the first two movies. It's like they made Terminator 3 more of a comedy than anything and plus the TX has got to be possibly one of the worst villains ever - the actress that played was just so unconvincing compared to Robert Patrick who played the T1000 in Terminator 2. But when I watch T3 now, it isn't as bad as I first felt watching it for the first time after all the 'hype' about it. I still find it quite insulting to the Terminator series as a fan but there is some entertainment in there somewhere.

For me, Terminator Salvation is actually less insulting as surprising as that might be to some people. I think it's because; while it tries to tell it's own story of the future, it pays a good homage to the first two movies which T3 for me I felt insulted. It wasn't as good as T1 or T2 in any way at all but it I could forgive it a lot more as a fan. I do think that if it was a longer movie, and we had more expansion on the characters, it would have been a much better movie. However because it was so short, and it was kinda rushed straight into the plot about going directly to Skynet, it gave us little time to 'care' about the characters and came across as more of a Terminator short than anything. Still, although not the perfect revival of the franchise, it certainly does interest me in what they will do next if they continue making more movies.

In my view Terminator Salvation could have been a much much better film if they had a better director, maybe some different cast and followed the original story more accurately.

T1 and T2 will always be great mainly i think because of Arnolds acting talents and script sadly those days are long gone now.

T3 storyline-wise was acceptable as Judgement Day and the "Rise of the Machines" is inevitable. The war with the machines is "supposed" to happen regardless of how many times they try to stop it, and when you look at the whole Kyle Reese, John Connor & Time-Travel connection paradox. Just a shame the execution was bad. Same thing with Salvation. They had some of the right ideas, but what came out of it wasn't portrayed very well.

T1 and T2 are great movies. I knew Salvation wouldn't compare to them so I watched it as a stand alone movie and without comparison to the first 2. That way I actually enjoyed it and thought it was quite a good film.

I liked all the terminator films.

Terminator 1 = 8/10
Terminator 2 = 9/10
Terminator 3 = 7/10
Terminator 4 = 7/10
